What to Buy?
I'm on a tight budget and don't want to go overboard, but I want it to turn out ok also.
I've heard of Dupont Nason?
I'd like to buy a kit that has everything I need, what is out there? WHat do I look for?
Sorry for all the ?s but I live 60 miles from the nearest paint shop, and I want to make my trip count considering gas is $2 a gallon.
There are no "kits" but there are systems. In a system, all the different products are designed to work together. While usually a little more expensive, you won't run into any compatiablity issues.
Nason has been around for years. Matter of fact, I have a pickup with a Nason single stage paint job that looks like the day it was sprayed. If I remember correctly, the paint job is about 7 years old.
My suggestion to you is that you apply a basecoat/clearcoat paint job, if this is your first time. While a little more work, it gives you a lot more wiggle room when it comes time to fix problems.
Which system to use? Everyone has their favorite so you are going to get a variety of answers to that question. My answer to you is go with the system your dealer stocks. That way if you run into problems, you will have someone you can contact by phone. Once you make a decision on a system, stop back here. Most likely there will be someone who can help you out.
By the way, I told you the correct way to do it. That doesn't mean that's the way I do it. I have tried a couple of different systems. I finally decided on a mix-n-match. I use Dupont EP epoxy, Evercoat or 800K 2K filler primer, Diamont basecoat, and either Diamont or Select clear.
