door gasket replacement

Putting my 79 back together after I painted it, and I am replacing all window and door gaskets . The new door gaskets will not let the door close tight and latch. It will close to the first latch click, but has to be pushed HARD to get to the final latch click. I have always been fond of the way the old 79 doors closed and latched with that Ford magic "click". So, slamming a Ford p/u door is not in my vocabulary. Any tips on getting these new door gaskets to flatten out and gimme my "click" back ??

You might try to lossen the striker inside the door jamb, just a little bit.

Slam the door tight, set it out in the sun, and let it cook for a few days.

thanks guys for the replies, I adjusted the strike pins with the gaskets off, so when the doors are in the fully latched position , the outside of the door skin is flush and even with the outside of the cab all the way around. So, I think I have the pins where they need to be, if I let them out, I believe my doors when latched up ,would then hang out past the cab. I heard somewhere that a good coat of vaseline on the rubber may soften them. Any truth to that one, other than just making it easier to slide in and out of the truck ? We are putting the engine in this Sat. so its on dollies for another week. By then, it should be good and warm out and I will do the bake thing. I just got to remember to take me a few cassette tapes , a cooler of cold drinks , and a sweat towel in to the cab with me. I cant stand the thought of leaving the babe out in the hot sun by herself,

At my local Ford dealer when they still had them back 3 years ago. I see that dennis carpenter, autokrafters, stores like those carry them now.
