Can Athens do it?

I heard about this a few months ago, but I thought the Greeks were just being lazy, now I see that terrorists have placed bombs in the city, and are destroying what little the greeks have done. Its really dissappointing, the Greeks wanted this so badly, and now they complain that they are too small to host the olympics.

I sure hope that there are some games this year, only 99 days to go....

they could always have em in athens ohio. but seriously, that really is dissapointing, cant even hold the olympics in the place they originated, b/c of ******* people who think they can accomplish something by terrorzing harmless places like that.

The language filter has been set off, please refrain from using that word.

To me, back in 1996, Greece was an obvious place to hold the olympics.
It's really a shame that so many worldwide things have happened to affect this
*coming together* of the world's athletes gets a kick in the face, since then.

I say ever country that has athletes competing in the olympics sends 500 troops over there a week before they start to prove to these terrorists that they are not going to win.

KT,
IMO, Unfortunately if there is troops sent over there, the terrorists would consider it Winning, just for that fact, that the troops are there.

True, you have a point, and the other side of the coin is,if they cancel the olympics the terrorists will still think they won.I just hope nothing goes wrong.

"I just hope nothing goes wrong" I second that, it would be very ugly if anything did.

I hate to say it, but you wouldn't catch me anywhere NEAR that place this summer. I can't imagine what it's going to be like for the parents and families of our athletes.

I'd love to go, I hope they can get it built in 3 months.... it took two and a half years to get Salt Lake City ready, and they already had a huge infrastructure.

Classic inefficiency of a socialist government -- the Greeks knew they'd get the Olympics 12 years ago, and many projects were only started last year.

Talking

In an effort to deflect attention away from the lack of progress on their facilities, the Athens Olympic committee has announced that the 2004 Summer Games will be held in the nude, just like the original ancient Olympics (this will give white guys a chance to win the men's high hurdles).

I think if anything happens in Athens, then it's time to bust out the nukes and turn the middle east into a giant glass bowl!

Dzervit, your idea could be a valid one. I think this country ought to let it be known ahead of time. If terrorists strike our soil again, the price will be one nuclear bomb. Strike a city of mostly islamic population. Sort of like reverse terrorism. Not nice, but I'll bet effective.

Nuclear weapons, are you crazy. Do you realize how much of a frenzy that would put them in to get their own and drop it on American soil. Even a dirty bomb would be catastrophic on our soil. I think that you guys need to realize that just cuz you've got big muscles you don't always win the fight. The honest truth is that terrorism is may never stop. These groups will always hate us and our way of life. They will always use extreme measures to accomplish their objectives, and we may always be one step behind of them due to our own policies and rules. The day we become like them is the day they win.

My thinking: they can't use any extreme measures if they are all obliterated. Drop some nukes and wipe them ALL out. There would be no frenzy. Just a few loons left over in the US. Its not like they are NOT trying to do something nasty now! You think they are hangin' around thinking "you know, the US hasn't dropped the a-bomb yet, so let's just chill on our plans to use our crude 'dirty' bomb to waste another 10,000 US civilians."

Your right on the fact that terrorism will never stop. Our lives as we know it has changed forever. Unless we nuke them off the face of the planet!

EDIT: Mods - I think I may be crossing the 'No political' line here... I'll stop now. Sorry.
