Floor flex at clutch master

I have an '85 E150. Shifting was tough and going into gear tougher. I noticed my floor flexed where the clutch master cylinder was mounted, robbing some clutch travel at the throwout. I reinforced it and the shifting and getting into gear improved. I have heard 80's F series also had clutch master mount flex.

Anyone else? I see lots of "hard to shift" comments around the site.

Was there a better fix than the home made reinforcement?

I had the same thing on my 84. Made reinforcement plate, worked fine the rest of the time I owned it. First time I heard of anyone else having that exact problem.
