(2nd time to post) I have read several posts about problems with the PSD's and automatic transmissions because of the amount of torque the engine produces being to much for tranny. I just read in the microtuner forum that Ford tried to fix this by tuning the PSD's down a little so as not to eat up the transmission.
Now,I know that on my particular truck, 99' F350 PSD 6 spd, that the PCM was changed or modified because there is a sticker under the hood that states this. How do I know if this is what was done to my truck and why was it done on a manuel shift.
Any ideas?
If your truck was a cackler, they may have replaced the #8 injector and reflashed the pcm. That's really the only reason that I know of as to why they would reflash a manual. My truck is and early 99 with 6 speed and the original code is AWA3. I was told by many that this code was one of the best for performance and fuel mileage.
From what I've heard, it was the 94's and 95's with AT that were routinely reflashed by the dealers. It was apparently for the reason you stated, the engines output was too great for the transmission, so they reflashed the PCM to avoid/reduce warranty claims on the transmission.
