300-6 MAF conversion

Ok. So i heard this rumor that 96 pickups had MAF 300-6s. is this true? and if so, what would have to be done to my 94 300 to make it compatible. I would think just Computer, and installing a MAFsensor. Am I wrong?
any help would be appreciated, as I am trying to puta little more pep and throttle response into this truck without increasing the fuel consumption TOO much. I think this will work
Thanks a lot,

They did have MAF wiring in them, but it's probably difficult and/or expensive to jusy get the wiring components to swap over. You'd need the MAF meter and wiring as well as the EEC. There may be other wiring/parts needed, but I don't have my reference material handy to check.

I'm planning to convert mine over to MAF once I get back home, but it'll be different than stock. My thoughts are to remove all the engine wiring and add the complete MAF engine harness, EEC and 19# injectors from an early '90s MAF 3.8. I still have a couple of small issues to work out, such as which dizzy to use, although I plan to use a closed bowl dizzy with it. I may just have to add that to the harness.

I'm overseas right now, but I should have the swap done once I get home.

The 96 EFI is not compatible with your truck. In 96 Ford went from the EEC-IV processor to the EEC-V and added OBD-II diadnostics. To incorporate the MAF from a 96 you would have to replace the entire powertrain wiring harness, add some sensors, adapt others.

MAF is not going to give you any more performance than S/D

I'll agree that changing from MAP to MAF on a stock engine, with no other changes won't make much difference; however, changing from 14# to 19# injectors and with just a little other work to the engine it'll make a very big difference.

When I changed my slightly upgraded 351W from MAP to MAF it made about 30 more HP at the rear wheels.

Well there is a kit ford sells for th 5.0 motor to convert to MAF I'm sure you could make the thing work. The only thing that the MAF is great for is preformence upgrades, on a stock system it's not worth it. Painless sells a maf converstion kit as well call them.

..this looks like the million $ question that everyone (seems like) needs an answer for I-6, and V-8 owners alike. Wished I had the answer too. I hope rjlougee the best of luck on his project, cause I think he's got a great idea. If it works, let me know. Anything must run more effecient than the speed/density getup.
