anyone knnow if there is supposed to be air in the fuel system, like i metioned in the earlier post the fuel pump is making noise like there is air in with the fuel a gurgling sound. any ideas would be appreciated
thanks
There should always be 'air' inside your fuel with almost any vehicle. It is usually in fairly minute quantities though relative to the 'fuel'. You might do a search on this for psds. I have read a few times about excessive air getting in the fuel line connections I think? Something about a cackling sound. Never seen a post about a gurgling sound. You can hear it above the engine noise? Post back if you find out what it is, I'm curious. What is the subject of earlier post, I have been out for a while and must have missed it.
Aside from the air that is normally entrained in the fuel there should not be any in the system. You should not be hearing a gurgling sound from the pump...you shoyuld hear it running, but the only time it gurgles is right after you change the filter or have had the fuel system open for maintenence.
Is your truck taking a long time to start, like the pump is losing it's prime every time?
well first the truck would stop running and then take almost an hour to start again. I checked fuel filter as it had air in it and the pump ran solid then it started to gurgle seeming to have air in it. Im not comfortable taking it on the road. Any ideas where the air could be coming from ie. bad fitting cracked line etc.?
2000 excursion that has s gurgling sound coming from the fuel pump and then seems to free spin like theres no fuel and then loads up like there is fuel. anybody experience this. And if so what is the deal? any suggestions?
That sounds to me like either the pump is on it's way out, or the secondary fuel inlet in the tank is sticking open. By chance are you below 1/2 tank of fuel, or does it do that on a full tank too?
Have you filled the tank since then? That 1/4 tank definately points to the side intake in the tank. If the problem goes away on a full tank you will have your answer.
