I'm in Valdosta, could you tell me what to look for, I have a friend that has a C6 and would give it to me, would I first have to know what it came off of? This may seem like a stupid question to you but, what does FE stand for, I've had chevy's all my life and ain't up on fords all that well. Thanks, shrike
FE stands for Ford-Edsel. This engine was designed in the late 50s and intended for those car makes. There was a variant called MEL, which stood for Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln. The FE motors are 330-352-360-390-406-427-428. Some throw the 410 in there but I think the 410 is MEL. In any case, many parts are interchangeable between the two.
I just put a new 360 and c-6 in my71 f250. The tranny shop says there 2 different trannys. Check the out-put shaft. Thats where the difference should be. Otherwise, i would think it should bolt right in. ( one tranny has an aluminum cover on the output, and the other has steel. to my understanding, this will dictate the length of the output shaft)
