I just picked up a 351 cleveland and my Dad and I are going to rebuild it. We are gonna make it for fairly big power but we don't have a vehicle to put it in, we are thinkin a muscle car and we have both been early mustang fans, what would you guys go with?
I like Mustangs but it has become harder to find a restoreable 'Stang in the past few years so go with a sleeper type of car. A Fairmont,Zepher or one of the lesser performance style bodies. I had a 351C in a '84 Ranger that was tubbed and lowered and all that neat stuff a few years ago which was a fun ride till I rolled it. I broke an engine mount and hooked hard left right into a steep ditch and there we laid on the roof. Good luck with whatever you go with.
My first love, is a 67/68 Mustang fastback. Since they are so darn expensive now, I would go with a 66/67 Fairlane 500. Love them Fairlanes, and you can still find restorable examples for a reasonable price up in Alabama.
Yeah I have been looking around and I sure like the looks of the 67/68 mustang fast backs. I am not to firmiliar with the fairlanes, I will have to check that out. Thanks Guys.
Yes, Fairlanes are nice. Personally, I would find a 70 or 71 Torino GT or Cobra to put the motor into. Do you have the 2V heads or the 4V heads? 4V has a lot of power and potential for more, but some say not as streetable (I have a 4V 71 Cleve, pretty streetable to me! Sure, I have to run high octane, but that's ok) 2V heads are great also, and you could just put in a solid lifter cam, rockers and guideplates/studs.
You could also look for a 73-79 Ford truck, they are going up in value very quickly.
Also, a 60's Cougar is a nice place to park a Cleveland. I like to have a different car from a Mustang. There are so many around, and you can have something that gets comments like 'I remember those!' or, 'What is THAT???!!!'
There is a lot of cool Ford muscle around. Just go online and look around. Even look at the Rancheros. They are sweet also.

I am doing the same thing with a clevo. Why don't you put it in a 80'-86' F-150 flareside like me. (details below) With the power of a reworked clevo in a 3600lb truck means lots of go with decent show(depending on how much you spend on the truck, believe me you can spend a lot on this kind of truck i've looked)
82' Flareside with ZOOM ZOOM
2/4 Drop
Soon to have 325hp 351 Clevo
(maybe more,in a 3600lb truck)
Backed by a C6 with a 2000 rpm stall and a 3.50 9 incher
American Racing AR-23 (series 23) wheels
Upgraded interior
Soon to have a kick @$$ stereo
trinogt, I agree with you. I had a 70 Torino with a stock 351C. Also had a 73 but I think the 70-71 has the better body style. A 66 or 67 Fairlane aint bad either. It seems I'm always wishing for the things I got rid of. Now if I had to do it all over again.............

I have an 84 F150 reg cab long box 2 wheeld drive and it has a built 351 windsor in it so I have covered that category already.
I also like the ranchero idea, that would be pretty neat. Some of those came with 429 cobra jet's did they not?
Rancharo or Fairlane would be cool. Bear in mind that the 351C will not fit in a 65/66 Mustang (without under the hood mods). It will fit 67,68,69,70,71,72,73. First used by Ford in 1970. Everyone has their own ideas about how to adjust the power curves. I think you can get a better street car with 2 bbl heads, better top end with 4 bbl heads.
