this might sound dumb, but take a car/truck that is usually thought of as slow or gutless, and stick it in there. with rear end and tranny mods. of course. I had a friend that bought a 79'( i think that was the year?) Chevy Luv. It had a 327 small block bored .003 over, with a 327 turbo tranny, and the rear end out of a 69' Fairlane. It also had camo paint, but he repainted it gloss black and put chrome tips on the already straight piped dual exhaust. it went from a gutless 4 banger stock, to a F***en jet. that thing could burn a wheel all the way up to 60 mph. he wanted to do a 4x2 to 4x4 conversion, but the lower oil pan on the 327 wouldn't let him put the front axle in, and he couldn't mount the x-case under the frame....not enough room. he was gonna use a 4x4 Luv that he found at al ocal junk yard to do the conversion. It was sweet though. he sold it for $1500 after he totally restored it. new rocker panels and floor boards. and repainted everything. even put new seats, interior, and sunroof in. looked mint. u should try it though.. take a gutless wonder, and transform it into something that turns heads!! good luck in whatever u do....
keep in mind that while fairlanes are awesome looking body styles, they take alot of time, skill and patience to use for performance applications. the stock fairlane's (fairlane 500 included) wheelwells are not large enough to accomodate performance wheels+tires. ask anyone whos done it, cutting and reshaping wheelwells so that they look decent is a tough job.
Well I have checked out pictures and I think its come down to a late 60's mustang or a Ranchero. I have yet to see very many rancheros around thought but I don't think it will be a while before I actually get one of these things.
I "do it at the digs" in other words I race brackets on the weekends when I have the time. My perosnal favorites to watch run are the oddball one off guys. Those that stick massive amounts of power in something rather not know for it. If I was lucky enough to have an spare engine around (seems like everytime I build a spare my vette blows the old one) I think I would place it something that was different.
Have you thought of using it in a Pinto or BobCat? Every once and a while you'll catch one of these at the strip running 11's with nothing more then a warmed over 351 or 302 and catching everyone by surprize. Another good choise for the oddball thing is a Mavrick or even the mid-70s stang. Both have a little more weight but still get the awws oooo's and wow's.:-staun
The engine came out of a 68 comet and it was a nice car and all its just not what I want. My buddies dad has a late 50's Ford Pickup that has been sitting in his back yard waiting for there Malibu to be painted. I think I may bug him till he will part with that.

How about a mid-60's Continental 4 door convertible. Those are awesome looking cars, with the suicide doors. There nothing wrong with that Ford pickup you're thinking of, though. Whatever you decide, let us know! Good Luck
I would suggest a Maverick approx. 2500lbs. or a Torino approx. 3200 lbs.

I have a buddy that has a 71 Cougar XR7 convertible(liscence plate is "71 Cat"). It has a 351C in it. Color is British racing green and looks real nice. Cragar 5 spoke chrome wheels. I never really much of that body style until I saw it in a convertible....REAL NICE. You might take a look to check out the body style. If I can get some pics from him, I will post for you.
