Has any one changed the plastic drain **** in there rad. The one in my 87 Bronco broke. Part of it stayed in and I got it out. Igot one from tthe dealer and went toput it in and it seems to be to big. Are there many different ones? The part #is E5TZ-8115-A is this the right one? Doe's the part that clips in to the tank goe in real hard? I don't want to force it in. is there a tool to install it or should go in by pushing it in with your fingers?
You will have to take a hard look at the threaded part of the plug and make sure it will fit inside your drain. If it does, it should snap in and then you can screw it closed.
The threaded part is what broke off. I got that out and the insert that the plug screws in to. The new one starts to go in but very hard I don't want to force it in . I'm going to call the dealer to make sure it is the right one. I'm trying to do this with out taking thr radiator out. Thanks
I had the same thing happen to me this last weekend on my 86 250. I bought 2 drain***** from two differenct manufacturers. Broke the first and and second wouldn't fit. So I went to O'reilly's and got a rubber 3/4in plug that expands when you tighten a nut on the end. It works perfect. The only trick is to keep it from spinning when you tighten the nut.
At least this worked for me. . . Good Luck.
Well I finally got it fixed. Called the dealer and they told me it was the right one. I ended up pulling the Rad. out. that thing went in super hard. Iended up having to use a punch and a hammer to get it to snap into place but it's fixed . thanks for all the help
Sorry to dig up this old post, but it's how I found the site and I thought it might be helpful to add that my 1989 F150 straight 6 4 speed manual 2wd also used this part, but the auto parts stores showed something completely different. I found the following aftermarket part numbers that are replacements for E5TZ 8115-A<table class="oem-replaceTab" style="margin: 0px auto; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: inherit; border-collapse: collapse; border-spacing: 0px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); letter-spacing: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%"><tbody style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;"><tr style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;"><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 3px; border-width: 0px 0px 1px; border-bottom-style: dotted; border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: 23px; height: 23px; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); text-align: center;">DORMAN</td><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 3px; border-width: 0px 0px 1px; border-bottom-style: dotted; border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: 23px; height: 23px; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); text-align: center;">490-239.1</td></tr><tr style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: inherit;"><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 3px; border-width: 0px 0px 1px; border-bottom-style: dotted; border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: 23px; height: 23px; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); text-align: center;">DORMAN</td><td style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px 3px; border-width: 0px 0px 1px; border-bottom-style: dotted; border-bottom-color: rgb(204, 204, 204); outline: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; line-height: 23px; height: 23px; color: rgb(85, 85, 85); text-align: center;">61108</td></tr></tbody></table>I drove an hour and a half to get one today from a Ford dealer that actually still had new old stock. None of the the usual auto parts stores had them. I could have ordered the aftermarket part from Autozone and had it tomorrow, but I needed it today so I could work tomorrow.
Using a hammer and a punch like the fellow above did could damage it.
When I put in the insert, I just lightly compressed the sides with a pair of needle nose pliers and started it in the hole. Then I gently pushed in with my finger and it clicked right in.
