One of the downsides of these boards (not just FTE look at any of them) is that the majority of posts relate to problems and so the perception becomes that all vehicles of a type are bad.
ABSOLUTELY major issue with this type of media..............that is why we have a high mileage area.

Very true. But the level of problems on the 6.0 boards is well beyond the norm. I followed the dmax board for over 2 years and still peek in on occasion. I also follow other boards for motorcycles, RVs, etc. Nothing in any of those boards over the years has begun to approach the level of problems that are in the 6.0 forums.
SBV,
I don't have solid numbers to show just how bad this motor is just as you don't have any numbers to show otherwise. The evidence is in the articles written in the auto press talking about all the problems with this motor, the flashes, all the rework on the motor for 04, all the talk of DSB's and Lemon Law in the 6.0 forums, folks looking for build dates on the motors, Ford turning off PI on all the motors and even Ford publishing numbers about buy backs. Not many people believe those numbers or would like to see dates and caveats but it's telling, none the less, that they felt compelled to publish it all.
I'll take the money. If PI was working on the 6.0, I MIGHT think about it but, as is, this motor is just not ready for prime time yet, IMO. We're going round and round about this. I went and drove an 04 dmax CC LT and an H2 tonight. Looked at an Escalade EXT, too. I'm not getting my hopes up real high at this point but it's fun to look.
I saw the post about the skunk fumes. I don't think that's what most of us are complaining about, though. I know it's not for me. I don't smell it when under way, thank goodness.

The numbers are from article in the automotive news they came from ford, and my mistake the recall was 66,720 for defective fuel injection control pressure sensor and recalibrations for ecm. at the time of the article ford had by there own numbers bought back 475 trucks. that was april 2003. Last night was seeting in office working on some bids when the phone rings and it my ford dealership, customer care calling to see if I was happy with the service I got on last trip to try and get my 6.0 to get some fuel mpgs. I told the person that I was not happy with the truck, but the dealership was doing everything they could do, she asked me if it was a super duty 6.0 and I said yes she told me the dealership that I bought my truck from is part of corp. that ownes 30 dealerships in 5 states and the new 6.0 is getting more complaints then any product they have ever sold.

The 1000 buybacks came from my friend who is sales manager at very large ford dealership he also told my the diesel sales are down by 40% which they feel is a result of the poor dependabiltiy of the 6.0 70% of there business is contractors and such and he feels the problems are scaring people away, and just as you have been asking people about there trucks I have been doing the same thing but most have said there 7.3 did much better then 6.0 and they were not happy with fuel mpgs.
Ok tn_mac, what's the point? What do you want everyone to say?
Aren't you on the phone to Ford? Why don't you just trade it in or sell it and be done with it? If I and some others are having a good experience, why whiz in our wheaties?
Yes, Ford screwed up with the Oct/Dec flash and need to fix that issue. Beyond that I like it.
BTW I am still looking for the recall notice defective fuel injection control pressure sensor or for fuel injectors. There are service bulletins but not recalls. The only recall I know of is the recalibration (software) recall for the California smog. None for the other 49 states.
You are not happy with it, I am. Leave it at that.
A recall/SSB's is considerably different from posting, "ford recalled 62,000 6.0 engines and has bought back over 1,000 trucks" the problem I have with statements, incorporating numbers is, it must be accurate it will/has caused very heated debates.
Numbers MUST be accurate, and the words bracketing them also accurate.
well I have a June build 2003 6.0 with over 16,000 miles and zero problems. Paranioa and extreme retentiveness seems to run rampant on the internet sometimes. I have yet to meet anyone that has or had a bad 6.0
Here in NH they are everywhere, the town uses them the state uses them and every other truck on the road that I see is a 6.0L.So as far as sales down I don't see it. I see alot more 6.0 than 7.3 that's for sure.
Your opinion on the reliability of any product is going to be based on your personal experience.
I have owned several vehicles that are way down on Consumer Reports "Frequency of Repair" charts and thus, "Not Recommended" by CR. Yet my personal experience was very positive, so my opinion is that the CR chart is wrong for that vehicle. An example, my 2003 X. My 1999 SD.
I have also owned several POS, and there is no way that someone will convince me that any of them were ever any good.
For example, I owned a Lexus RX300. #1 on JD Powers and CR lists. I had more problems with it than my 1997 Caddy Catera, which is on the bottom of JD Powers and CR lists.
Go figure.
If you got a POS 6.0, your opinion will be that the 6.0 is a POS.
If you got a good 6.0, your opinion will be that the 6.0 is a great engine.
No sense arguing about it. Neither of you are going to convince the other.

The only recall I know of is the recalibration (software) recall for the California smog.
From my understanding, the above mentioned "reason" for the recalibrtion notice to the truckers, has not been confirmed. I mention this having read some follow-up comments from others on this forum who took in their trucks for annual registration, with no documentation that such a recalibration was made on the truck, or that the state required it prior to re-registration. My perception is that the statement/alert from Ford was worded so that the truck owner would intrepret the notice as being a "state requirement". ((( Are we talking corporate credibility, again....... )))
