i was installing an amp and the door speakers were playing heard some slight pops then they stopped playing. so now nothing plays in my truck. i hooked up my 6x9 to see if the speakers were the issue nope it won't play either. either my headunit just went bad, which appears to be working like normal or a wire or something burned up or shorted out or whatever. i checked the door speakers they are fine. nothing is happening though im getting no sound but some static pops ever now and then when the volume is set to max. any idea on what to do. i check all fuses under dash. i was told that there was a fuse box under the hood that i should check ther but i couldn't find one. its an 88 f150. any idea what happened?
This may be a shot in the dark but when something like this happens to me, I check everything. I would pull out your headunit because usually they have a fuse on them. Check to see if that is blown.
Does the popping sound occur when you are driving or only when you have the volume up to max?
only when volume is at max. but there is not other audio other than that popping noise. ive checked all the fuses i know to check including the one on the headunit. they are all fine. all of the under dash fuses the one on the head unit all looks fine. what im thinking is the amp might have grounding to the headunit via rca cables causing damage to the headunits output some how. ive checked all speakers and all fuses that i know of to check everythign is ok. the headunit looks like its operating normally but that doesn't mean it wasn't damaged some how. i just don't know how to test it to see if it was this, i don't have another unit to plug in to see if that fixed it. its probably the headunit damaged, some wire burned out, which im kinda doubting since somethings getting to the speakers, the poping noise, or a fuse i don't know about. but ive check all under the dash on the headunit etc. don't know what else to do but to take it to circuit city and have them look at it. anything else?
Sounds like your head unit is toast. eBay for a cheap identical replacement.
Ground loop isolation is required to connect the factory head unit to an aftermarket amp. These isolators are sold at most car audio shops, walmart, etc. About $20.
Output of the headunit is not common ground. Most aftermarket headunit RCA pre-amp outputs are common ground which makes them compatible with the aftermarket amps.
what in the world are you talking about man? snap out of it!
i already knew the headunit was toast i killed the built in amp i have a new one now and everything is hooked up and working fine. ebay for a cheap replacement? what in the world are you talking about? you think im using that stock crappy cheap cassette player? LOL it was a pioneer deh 1500, i have a deh 3600 now and im quite happy. find it funny i tend to know whats wrong with my stuff before anyone else does when i ask for help lol. kinda sucks though because seems like my suspicions are always justified, which costs mucho mula. i asked a professional monday about what was wrong with it, he told me what i already suspected lol.
ps. you really didn't think i would use the stock deck that came in a 1988 f150 did you? please tell me you didn't lol.
