rear end question

is there anyway to change rear end gears and not have to buy a programmer to fix the speedometer? like if you are exchanging them from 2 trucks is there anything else you could swap to make the speedometer correct?

There is one other way, but that includes a trip down to the local Ford dealer, to reprogram the computer. This route may be cheaper and worth your time to call up a local dealer.

Unfortuntely there are not any magical parts that can be swapped. Vehicle speed is read of the abs ring in your differential, the ring has a bunch of teeth in it, and uses the sensor in the top of the pumpkin to create a signal that the PCM uses with the gear ratio number, that is programmed into to it, to generate a signal that is sent to your speedometer.

In effect the magical swap that is needed is to "swap out the gear number" that is in the PCM, and this is done with a tuner, or a trip to the Ford shop.

Any real tuner can take care of this in the eec, not just the dealer.
