Pancakes & Kids

It's just amazing how many pancakes a child can eat. "Only when Dad cooks them" Must be something different we do? Can we say bottomless pits..

7 year old just ate like 9 six inch pancakes. Not including the two donuts will waiting. And he's not real big. I guess the simple things in life make me laugh....

I remember eating like that. My dad would make them as big as a dinner plate and my friend and I would eat 2 or 3 of them then go play like it was nothing.

One of my mom's favorite stories to tell is that one night she was woken up by a noise coming from the kitchen, so she went to check it out. When she got to the kitchen I was sitting in my high chair banging my fists and shouting "Pancakes! Pancakes!"

Its kinda funny though. I'm not a pancake fan anymore. I am however very fond of crepes

With my kids, it's grilled cheese sandwiches. "Daddy's cooking grilled cheese! Daddy's cooking grilled cheese!" If my wife ever lets me cook my lasagne they'll go nuts. Wife doesn't let me cook much, claims it's her forte'.

My favorite breakfast! When I was little, my mother got a frantic call from my friend's mom the morning after a sleep over. She was worried because I ate 15 pancakes for breakfast. Mom assured her that was normal. The best I ever ate: Macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup at The Royal Lahaina Resort on Maui.

Can anyone answer this for me?

Just how big are the pancakes supposed to be in order to get 12-16 like they advertise on the box? I haven't been able to get more than 8.

I have to cut my kids off at 4 each, or life will be really bad once the sugar kicks in.

My youngest daughter is 16 and still would eat my pancakes every night. I have had nights when there would be 4 or 5 of thier friends come over when I made pancakes. I believe it's because my wife makes the small ones and mine are always the big 8" to 10" ones. I use pure vanilla from mexico, it seems to taste better.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most companies believe 4" pancakes are correct.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I don't know whether you will believe this or not but in the summer I used to go to the farm, It was not uncommon for me to eat a lot as I was always busy.
Well, when I was 15 ,I had a pancake eating contest with my Cousin Gary (the same age as me).
That Saturday morning,we consumed 75 - 6" pancakes,39 by me & 36 by Gary.
I have witnesses to verify this if necessary

The main thing about this competition was ,I also ate 4 eggs and about a dozen pieces of bacon at that same meal.
We finished eating at 8:30 am.
Went utside to have a baseball game,we played until about noon,then we went to the house looking for Dinner.

Some days, members of my family think I am still trying to digest all that food.

These days I can only eat about 6 x 6" pancakes.

For my dad, it was French toast. When I was about 7, I could eat about 4; and by the time I was in high school, I was eating 16. The grill was only big enough to cook 4 at a time, so the first round was 2 for me and 2 for my brother. The second round was again 2-me 2-brother. Since my brother could only eat 4 total, the next 2-3 rounds of 4 all went to me. It took me longer to butter & suryp those stacks than it did to eat them.

My brother prefered Dad's blueberry pankakes to the French toast, but neither one of us could eat more than 4 of those since they were at least 8-inch and quite thick. Were were quite fortunate and proud to have our very own blueberry bush in the back yard.
