Question How do I take the power supply board from my radio?

Hi to everybody: I order a power supply board for my truck radio; a 1998 Ford Explorer, to fix the display. Now I need some help on how to change it. Can somebody help me or gide me to where I can find some info? Thanks

Hi to everyone, I'm new to this forum. I assume you have the same single CD player radio as I have in my 2000 Mountaineer (V8 AWD). I had the display problem also and pulled the radio 4 times attempting to re-solder the connections on the power circuit board. Finally worked on the fourth attempt and has been for about 6 weeks now. Any point on the board that had solder on it was reflowed and in some cases added solder.
The board is easy to take out. With the radio sitting on a bench with you facing the back of it, the board is on the extreme right side just below the top cover. Remove 2 little screws (one of them is set into the black heat sink on back of radio), unsnap (pry off) the top and you will see the power board in all its glory. Its fixed in place with metal ears (part of frame) that project up thru the board and are twisted to secure the board. With needle nose pliars, grab the ears firmly and untwist them. Once you unplug the small electrical connection to the board, it will lift out easily. Be gentle with the ears, they could break with too much twisting back and forth and then you'de be up s*** creek without a paddle! Installation of the new board is the reverse, obviously. I'd check the solder points on the new board before installation for anything suspicious. Any dull gray solder points would get heated and reflowed. Good luck and have fun!

Check out this site for detailed instructions: www.shareamemory.com/radio A "donation" of $20 is needed but well worth it. I used the service and was very pleased.

pikiluvi,
Where did you order your display board from? I paid my friendly Ford dealer $294.00 to send my cd/tape radio out for this problem. I didn't know about this forum at the time. Oh well! Live and learn!
