Grendel used to make one, the P-30. They quit making them a few years ago. Very handy gun, much of it was polymer. Even with the 30 round magazine, it was still fairly light in weight. I carried one during the first gulf war. If you can find one at a gun show, they normally run about $350-400.
Another company may still make one, I *think* it is automag, but not really sure. Fine gun, only 7 or so rounds in the magazine.
Yes, they do make .22 semi auto pistols. In fact, smith & wesson makes their Model 41, I believe, among others that fit that description.
They're also used in competition - I saw them in use in a tourney shown on American Shooter on OLN on TV. Of course, these had compensators and holo scopes and all sorts of nonsense strapped onto them. The tourney may have even been IPSC, the "used-to-be-about-PRACTICAL-shooting" competition...
There's a company called AMT. They manufacture the AMT Automag.
It comes in .22 Magnum, and .30 Carbine if I remember correctly.
I've got the AutoMag in .30 Carbine. It is by far the funnest (and most accurate) pistol I've ever shot. The Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine is fun, but nothing like the AutoMag. Makes lots of light & noise too. The muzzle blast will light up the lane at the range like a flashbulb and the report is like no other!
No one really makes a .22 mag pistol right now but Volquartsens reciever is a ruger 1022 reciever and the pistol marketed by them is the Cheetah, and yes its pricey. According to BATF rules you cannot legally cut a rifle down into a pistol. But for quite a bit less than a Cheetah you can order a "virgin" reciever and build your own pistol based on the Ruger/Volquartsen reciever. I've got a M16A2 grip and I'm debating on the .22mag or .22LR and.17 the advantage of course is the .22LR can be converted by swapping barrels and there be more "goodies" for the .22LR action. You can also swap out barrels and convert the pistol back into a rifle as BATF regulation allow conversion from pistol to rifle. You also have to remember that exept for a few excepted weapons such as a few of the old Lugers, broomhandle mausers and a couple of others you cannot have a stock on a pistol even with TCs. of course as long as you don't get busted for something else illegal the likelyhood someone will bust you for it is remote, its a kinda "got you for that too" for the most part.
Got the Automag .22 Mag. Haven't had a chance to fire it yet, but am told to expect flame-thrower length muzzle flash. Recoil spring feels like it came off a rail car. Best part is it was thrown in on a deal where I got a Kimber for $500. Am waiting for the combo rifle in .22 mag/.17. And/or .17 barrel for my 10-22.
Ruger already has the Single Six in .17.
Automag in .44 was in an Eastwood movie. The .22 looks a little different, but still has quite a look to it. It ain't no pocket pistol. You have found one, but the legal sale and transfer etc would be a hassell. I think there is a way to email via the site if you want to inquire further. And legal sale and transfer is the only way, FYI.
