Question 88 Ranger engine codes...Help!!!

I keep getting a check engine light, when I drive my truck, (88 4x4 2.9) so I did a code check, first one with the motor not running, first code is 11, System pass. Second code is 14, PIP failure, what's this?
Next I did the engine running, goose test, got 3 codes:
21-engine coolant temp
41-HEGO (what the heck is that?)
74-brake on-off
Can anyone give me an idea what the HEGO and PIP are?

HEGO stands for Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen. Simply put, it is the oxygen sensor.

PIP is Ignition profile pickup code, 14 is PIP circuit fault
for code 21, does your truck ever get hot? if so, you might look into the TStat.
not sure about 74.
Ken or Rockledge will be able to elaborate on these more.

Well I drove it on the freeway for 100 miles, the check engine light didn't come on till about 65 miles into the trip. Temp gauge said it never got that hot, but I'll change the thermostat, and oxygen sensor too, see what happens.

I replied to your email on the 14. For the 21, was the truck up to temperature? Check for burned wires going to the O2, it's on the top side of the exhaust, passengers side. For the 74, did you press the brake after the ID code?

Ken00, got your e-mail, Thanks. Looks like the PIP code is gonna be alittle more involved to take care of, I'll work on that this week-end, have to check into the breakout box.
As far as the other codes, I retested and got rid of 74, didn't step on the breaks. Still have the HEGO code though, tried to take the o2 sensor out, and it's stuck! Kinda hard to get at too.
Drove it to work and back today, and for the first time...no check engine light!
This thing has got me stumped, seems to be running pretty good though.
(Knock on wood )

it is easier to get the o2 sensor out from under the truck.
