Just got back from a round trip to Houston. 320 miles one-way, US-75/I-45. Averaged 16.2 going down and 15.3 on the return. Now have 4300 mi. on the 04 F250 CC Fx4 3.73 short bed V10. Everything stock. Set the cruise on 65 both ways. Mileage would probably have been a tad better if it wasn't for the OU/Texas football traffic in Dallas. This is probably the best it will do. Don't think mileage will improve much from now on. Haven't yet checked the mileage pulling the trailer. 65 is normal cruising speed for me. Drove in a hurry for over 24 years with the Oklahoma highway patrol. Retired now and feel comfortable at 65 on the interstates. Saw several V10's pulling trailers on the way down and back. Passed a few and was passed by a few. Real satisfied with the mileage. Got held up for way over an hour in Dallas, stop and go, stop and go. Can't complain about 16.2, much better than i expected it to be. I'll keep the truck stock, have no need to improve it, trailer not heavy enough.
Read about all kinds of good and bad mileage reports. Everyone drives their own way. If I drive my new V10 like I drove my highway patrol unit the mileage would be terrible. I am not really that concerned about what kind of mileage I get. I knew what I was getting long before I bought it. If I baby the thing I'll get good mileage, as we did on the way to Houston and back. Drive fast, or pull a load, mileage goes down. Drive in town all the time, bad mileage. 14 to 16 avg for highway driving ain't bad for a big truck. If a man wants to drive a big truck, low gas mileage is part of it.
I got 14mpg on my last tank, filled up today. Mostly on the highway, but some stop and go. It's been a while since I've driven it unloaded, usually pulling a 4,200lb. boat. (Like the last 2,500 miles) Way more power than stock too, I usually drive like an older dude, but today, in second gear at 1,700 rpms I stomped it and broke loose the rear tires. Whoohooo!! LOVE that Diablo chip. Airbox, MAFS, throttle body, headers, flowmaster, "modified" converter.
I get 10 around town about 11 highway and 7.5 towing 9k lb toybox.I have babied the throttle on full tanks and just hammered on it .It doesnt matter the mileage is the same.
I got 16.2MPG pulling a 350lbs enduro on a small trailer - bed w/cap and lots of camping stuff... however, it was after I was thrown by the bike 30 feet and dislocated my shoulder - I was in much pain and drove VERY gingerly...
At the time, 235/85r16's aired up to 70 lbs, and auto w/3.73's. SC SB, so it's the second lightest V10 4x4 of the SD's.
Average, on the highway, 14's, possibly 15's if the trip is long enough (75-85MPH usually, too). Now that I'm running Cooper 265/75r16 AT's aired at 50lbs... still around the same on the highway - strange, but basically it means the rolling resistance isn't making much of a difference for me.
Hi all, I've been calculating mileage this week-end went into a trip, so here it is:
43 liters of gas for 261 km= 11.35 US gallons for 163.12 miles
163.12 divide by 11.35 US gallons= 14.37 miles per US gallon = 16.7 liters for 100km Is that reasoneable?
Engine has 312,168km and burns about hafl pint oil every 1000 miles. Compression is equal in every cylinder I change sparks plug every 6 months and wires every 2 years. Transmission oil have been chenged once in 16 years. I clean throttle body with spray once a month and air filter when its become brownish. As you see it is the original paint, a couple of retouching has been made these past years using the original color the van is treated with a special mix of mineral oil and other product at high pressure to assure that no rust can come out.
Thats my story folks
Ever since I got my '99 F250 CC SB 4X4 in April I have had rare opportunity to measure highway mileage since I've either been towing the camper or piddling back and forth two miles to work and back. Last week I took her on an empty road trip (2 lane road 55mph speed limit, cruise set at 63mph, 100 degrees F, A/C running on MAX) and calculated my mileage at 13.7 MPG. My '96 Tahoe I had previously would only get 14.5 on its best day. I was very happy with the mileage.
Well this post is almost 2 yrs old .
Mpg's will have changed ,because fuel has changed since 04
We get junk for fuel now
Fuel filters are clogging sooner from what I have seen
02 V10 Std cab 4x4 auto trans 373 ltd slip . On the highway in 2wd hi mode70 mph towing an empty car trailer mileage was 12 mpg. never was any better than that.
