14 or 16 gauge

Im building a bed and wonder how many millimeters 14 gauge and 16 gauge are? I see that normally you use 16 gauge but heavy duty beds are made from 14 gauge.(which I guess is thicker) I was thinking of using 2 mm thick plates.Would that be thick enough?

Thanks-That means if I understood the chart correctly that 16 gauge is around 1,5 mm and 14 gauge is around 2 mm. Right?( if one inch is 25,4 mm)

Question

Airwick,
I'm not sure of the metric equivalents but I believe the original boxes were 18 gauge, however I did mine in 16 gauge an dI'm glad I did.

What gauge sheet metal have the rest of you used on your bedsides?

GW
