1986 F150 4x4

Well, I have an 1986 F150 4x4 and it has a stock 300 4.9L in it, so I guess you can add that to the percentages too. Love the 300, but would like a 351 Windsor for it. I have a 460 7.5Land a spare 300 4.9L that I'd love to trade for a regular 4 bbl carb 351 Windsor with a C6 auto tranny for a 133" WB 4x4 F150. Getting sick of shifting. Then I'd be happy.

nobody mentioned the 6.6L 400 available from 80-82... My 1980 F-350 4x4 400 rebuild is almost complete... I also really like the 4-speed NP435 tranny... the granny 1st is a real lifesaver in certain situations.... I need a rear locker and with the granny low and 4x4 low... 5mph @ 3000 rpm.... getting stuck nowhere... it is the simple conditions like going to an auction, raining, parking is on sloped turf and everbody is sliding and spinning...

Really depends on all of your intended uses

I also have an 84 F150 4x4 with the carb'd 302... In my opinion the 302 is not a great truck motor... daily driver, maybe??? my gas mileage was around 12-15..

Did you guys forget about the abominable 4.2L V8 that was available in 1981 and 1982? 3.68in bore x 3.00in stroke, 255 Cu In, 8.2:1 compression ratio, single-barrel carb the whole thing making a whopping 115HP at 4000 RPM and a beautiful 206 ft/lbs at 1800 rpm. It was supposeddly based on the 5.0L. Barely more powerfull than the 3.8L V6. I don't know how many were produced but it was way too many.

I think even Ford wants to forget about that one.

I've actually never seen one in a truck, thank god. However, I stay away from the '83 and under since I don't like mechanical clutches or swiss cheese with my frame...

The autozone specs are broke down by percentages with that number of cylinders. The way it's set up is you have a V8 but don't know how big it is. Their stats say that if you have a V8 there's an 81% chance that it's a 302 and a 19% that it's a 351W. They then have the 6 cylinder category which says 99% for the gas 1bbl 300. the other 1% (if that) is a 2bbl propane truck(at least for '85).
