My daughter just picked up a 1999 Ranger XLT extended cab and we can't find anything to tell us which V-6 it has. The truck has vin number LFTYR14XXXTA25535. Any info would be appreciated.
Can't she ask whomever she bought it from? Barring that, is the serpentine belt sticker still in place when you lift the hood? If the 3.0 and 4.0 OHV engines have different belt routings (depicted on the sticker), you should be able to figure it out from the way hers is routed. If they have identical routings... well... I'm sure someone else will chime in!
Soksniffer; I didn't know that but will look at the belt. The guy she bought it from shipped out before I could ask him. He left the morning after she picked up the truck.
Welcome to FTE Bear45/70,
I have a 1999 XLT 4.0 X-cab 2wd Sport and it is the best little truck ever. Lots of pep and power and still gets 20 mpg highway! Gotta love the blue oval!
Look at the 8th position of the VIN. If it's an "X" then she has the 4.0L engine, if it's a "U" then she has the standard gasoline 3.0L engine, if it's a "V" then she has the flexible fuel (E85) 3.0L engine. If it's none of the above, then it's not a V6.
Thanks everyone, I collared the very busy young lady this PM. The truck is indeed the 4.0L. Marked by the belt diagram and on the throttle body as 4.0. So her truck has all the goodies, power everything including the engine. And to top it off she pretty much stole it for less than $6,300 and with only 64,000 miles too.
That she did, the guy was headed bad overseas, Korea it seems, and wanted out from under the payments. So he sold it to her for what he owed. This is the second time she did one of these deals, last year she picked up Honda XR100R3 dirt bike for $1400 bucks with boots and riding gear. She gets set on a goal then keeps looking until she finds it. Dad is real proud of here.
