Add-a-leaf?

I came across the possibility of adding another leaf spring on the rear of pickup. I have a couple questions...

1) Are they hard to install? Do you need any special tools?

2) What would the ballpark be for adding a leaf?

They are not hard to install if you have some tall heavy duty jack stands to support the frame on and a short pair for the axle and another for the pinion end of the axle housing too. The hardest part will be getting the u-bolts off if the nuts are rusted on. Shoot them with some penetrating oil or WD40 the day before you start working on it. If they are real bad you may have to cut the bolts off with a die grinder and cutoff wheel or a torch. Check the JCWhitney catalog for a ballpark price.

Instead of adding a leaf for a more level truck when you have a load in it, have you thought of adding air bags like Air Lift? That way, you get to keep the original ride and just air up when you have a load. I put them on my F-250 SD and wouldn't have it any other way.
