A while back i purchased a pair of Sylvana Silver Star bulbs for my 1999 Ranger. While they seem brighter than the stock, i was still looking for something brighter, or clearer even. I see some cars that have the cleanest looking reflection on the ground compared to mine, and i'm wondering what kind would give me the crisp clean light, that doesnt appear blue from far away or up close. What kind do you guys use?
I'd keep looking around online. I believe Sylvania makes a headlight bulb that is a little bit clearer (whiter), but it is harder to find in the US? Supposedly they're legal, just hard to find. That's just what I heard though, I have no idea. I have Silver Stars in mine. You could also replace the headlight itself with a clear projector style lens. I think APC or something makes them. Search on ebay for ranger headlight and see what you find.
while we are talking about head lites i see these almost blue, brite lites here in jersey can any one give me a short blurp on who makes them and how much? are they legal or not and do they really improve visability or just made to blind the on coming driver? and is there any other recommendations for improved sight? Ok, i can tell you, i just bought a pair of Diamond clear headlight housings, that came with teh diamond clear corner lenses, for 95 bucks, i put in a pair of GE somthing or other's, there in a blue package at wal-mart. It not only looks really good, but it also performs good, which is what i want, you can see down the road for a long ways with these puppies!

Those lights you mention I believe are called Osram SilverStar.....I think they are only sold in Europe--for some lousy reason--and are well worth it. Sylvania makes both lights, just the US gets the sham-for-the-money version.
Anyway, I use the GE XV bulbs from Wal-Mart and it's well worth the ~17 bones with my EuroClears. I mean, $40 for Silverstars are ~17 for something with a better Kelvin rating, go figure. The factory headlamp lens patterns just blow, until you get to the most recent models.
I noticed pep boys also has some bulbs called "Sylvania Halogen XtraVision Capsules" that are presumably cheaper than SilverStar, but say that they're 20% brighter than OEM (standard halogen).
I don't suppose that would also improve the problem of the light not being focused or pointed exactly as desired, but there's always the possibility to retrofit a newer headlight housing if desired.
mine's a '99 and the light maybe isn't as focused as the latest models but a brighter bulb helps a lot. especially for someone like me who tends to drive in some poor conditions and can't see very well at night, even with glasses.
