Im Thinkin Of Making My Truck Into An Ss Theme, copper Red Base And Flat Black Racin' Stripes ,lowerd,no Air Ride, custom Rims, disks All Around,9" Rear End,wut U Think
It should already have a 9 inch rear end (what engine is in it? 4x4 or 4x2?) 9 inch rear discs can be had from a few years of Lincolns but they are very, very hard to find. Given that the majority of braking is in the front I don't see what you'll really gain with rear discs. Put discs in the front from a 73-79 and it'll stop just fine.
it a 4x2 ,and the VIN says it doesnt have one in it ,when i start realy getting dirty im gonna get the code off the rear end its self ,im gonna be putting big rims on it,jessie james says"if u see a guy rollen in big rims with stock brakes, hes a dummy,"i dont wanna be a dummie, plus its a bragging right,so ,ya ummmm..........more opinions and ideas would be greatlly excepted
The 9" is really easy to id. It is smooth and has a girlish figure with no bolts on the back cover. It has a removable third member. Upgrading discs up front is not a bad idea, but I agree that back discs are $ wasted. Not only is there the weight transfer to the front, but the rears weigh nothing anyway, unless loaded.
I like the rest of it. Are you leaving the grille alone? Phantom would be kinda cool. Not sure I've seen that in these vintage trucks before. I'm sure it's been done though.
For me disc breakes is a bragging right, wut does that grille look like,im gonna stay with the the grille,it the only thing that seperates it from other years
Disc brakes is a braggin right. Heck yeah! I'm upgrading to rear discs later as well. They look sweet all the way around. By the way 1972Ford_F100, I'm rolling 20s and airride with front discs right now. However, I don't agree with ol jesse about the stopping power. My stops great, and I don't agree that stopping power decreases with big wheels. Here is why I think this personally.......Yes, if you are running 44" tires, you need bigger brakes because the momentum of the rolling mass is increased. Kind of like how a larger diameter tire will require more power to turn than a smaller one. However, My rear tire height overall with the 20s is the same exact height as the 275/60s I had on my old billet 15s. And in fact, I believe that my 15s and big tires were were actually heavier than my 20s! Even stock steel rims and a stock type tire are very similar in weight to my 20s. I've heard that same thing about stock brakes and big wheels from other "famous" sources, but I'm just not going to agree, and I'm speaking from experience. I agree that every chance to upgrade safety systems like brakes is a good idea, but to me, not mandatory. This is just what I think by what I've done. I've been wrong plenty of times before though! By the way, I'm liking your plans for your truck!
Phantom grille: headlights behind the grille, usually an all billet grille. Lights shine through the grille when on. Cool if done right. On these Fords you would need to paint the space behind the grille black instead of body color.
hey always remember an opinion is never rong,i love ur truck bagged, looks alsome, how much them wheels cost u,and the air ride system,im still undisided about air or not ,i want to have it to were it perform great, the best, but around where i live no one likes air ride,or lowerd trucks for that matter,so i wanna set a trend but i dont know wut way to go,i want it to perform, anyone watch the show overhaullen?well on the show they did a 71' chevell maliboo, they did a base color called "red copper" i think,i want that color and mabe flat black stripes give it one HELL a good look.
thanks all more opinions and ideas will be well acssepted.
to tell if ya already have a 9 in or not look at it if its bolted front welded back 9
count bolts 5 in front 10 on back
then see if you can take a rachet to take the bottom 2 out if you can not a nine
the bottom 2 takes a wrench its a nine
