Well Im at that point in my build, that I need an opinion here. I working with a 1964 390, .030 over forged flat tops, 427 rods {according to the numbers},new 390 crank, all bolts are ARP,Hv Melling,7qt pan, windage tray, Crane 801 cam, crane anti-pump lifters, edelbrock timing chain, RPM intake 750 Double Pumper, and thats all I have so far. The bottom end is together so now im to the heads. The ones that came off of it were the early C1AE and C4AE and they have been polished up. Now I know port matching with the RPM intake will be an issue, but honestly what would be better for me to do, pour alot of money building those heads or save up for some Aluminum ones. I forgot to mention Ill also have a Direct Port Nitrous system, and I know that probably makes a huge differance. Also ill be using the Harland Sharp roller rockers. In other words this isnt going to be my grocery getter. Also cant decide weather I want to go auto and stall or 4 speed. LOL i promise ill stop asking 390 questions shortly.
go with the edelbrock rpm aluminum heads, if you plan on rebuilding her up with nitrous and all, it would be a good idea to get new heads, the edelbrock heads are about $1300 for the pair.
Thunder I have to agree with Fordman428...at this point in you build..I would go with the Edheads...That was the first thing I bought...After talking to machine shop (Terry Walters) here in VA..I found for a couple dollars more I could just go with Edheads!
Well thats what Ill go with then, guess Ill have to start saving up, but its well worth it I mean heck I could be spending that money on a women ......no offence im sure a female might read that
RapidRus,
I have been looking for a good machine shop for a 390 build, I live in Hampton. This Terry Walters, do you recommend him and if so were is he located. Hard to find somebody who really know FE's anymore, a lot of the old timers (and I mean that with respect) are gone unfortunately.
