4x4 31 inch frame width
I know Ford used the 31 inch wide frame from 73 to 77, but I was wondering what years they used the 31" frame before 73. I have a 74 high-boy frame,(obviously 31" wide) and I want to put a 67 - 72 body on it. Anyone have some helpful input or advice? Thanks!

You should be ok. The frame did not widen in the front until later, just the back, around the bed area. Which is easy to make new body mounts for. However, the frames are 4" longer I believe. So you need to move the bed up a bit or have a large gap between the cab and bed. This, ofcourse affects the axle location in the wheel well, so the axle would also have to be moved the same amount. Driveshaft shortend, etc. Not real hard, just a little planning.

When you say 31 inches wide, do you mean outside of the rail to outside of the rail or from inside of the rail flange to inside of the rail flange? About 34 1/8 on the outside of my 1971 F-100, inside is 27+, then again I am not 100 % sure of the year for my frame.

I think the Highboys are different than the 2wd. frames. So rebodardo, are you talking about a Highboy? My dad is borrowing my truck tonight, otherwise I'd go measure. I have a '71 Highboy and a 2wd. I also have a '78 chassis and it is the same as the high boy up front width wise.
