Alright, now I have always been a diehard ford fan but this may be my last straw. Last night I went out to look at buying some new tires for the power stroke. When I went to leave the local 7-11 I noticed that when I put the truck in gear it didn’t jump like it usually does. Well I gave it some gas and it took a second to move but it did. Soon after looking at the tires I was going to leave the guys house. Well I put the truck in drive and all it did was rev up, put it in second and it jumped, put it in first and was able to drive by shifting from 1st to 2nd. When coming up to the next stop sign I decided to test the gears before I went through the intersection. That’s when I had nothing, no 1st, 2nd or drive but plenty of reverse. What do you think this could be? I am assuming that this means its time for a new tranny but im also told it could be as simple as a clogged filter. What do you think? Any help is greatly appreciated. If this is the third tranny im sorry to say but this may be the last of ford for me. Thanks again. Stroken38s
Based on your signature, I'm not too surprised. A 'regular' tranny rebuild isn't going to hold up to a chipped PSD w/big tires. Joe Schmoe's tranny service is probably just going to use factory spec parts and maybe install a shift kit. Neither of which will withstand the test of time- as you've discovered.
You need a rebuild from a shop that specializes in "high powered" PSD transmissions.
I agree with NoMo, my friend was running a chip and propane injection on his truck with 35's and smoked the tranny. Rather than replacing it with another stock unit, he found on tranny/torque converter combo that would handle the increased HP. He didn't blame it on Ford since he is now at 500+ HP. In fact he just bought a F-250 with the 6.0 for his wife.
