Have y'all seen these? Do they work on a PSD and are they safe to use? I'm not sure what kind of pressure is in the oil pan, but does using one of these run the risk of bursting open because of pressure or something else? I just saw a commercial for one, and as many times as I've burnt the #### out of my hands, it seems like something I could live with.

I just over the weekend, bought the "FRAM Sure Drain" and I decided not to use it during my oil change. This is just my opinion, but I like for the old oil to flow good while draining and I could tell with the small opening on the FRAM style that this wasn't going to happen. Just kind of think that any sediment would come out better with the heavier flow. Again, just my opinion......

I agree! Simple physics...for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. 1 qt per 10 seconds will pull more weight than 1 qt per 40 seconds....kind of like a toilet drain tube. Again, just an opinion and nothing more. I get slammed for making anything but POSSITIVE commments.

FYI, the Fram Sure-Drain listed for our trucks by Fram (model SD-2) WON'T FIT. The threads are different. Don't force it or you'll strip the threads in the pan. I caught the error before doing any damage.

There is what appears to be a free-flowing valve available from fumotovalve.com. I don't have any first-hand knowledge since I haven't ordered one yet.

Thanks for the feedback y'all. I think I'll stay away from them. I've changed my own oil since I was 16, so you'd think I'd be smart and get the oil ahead of time and do it when the engine is cool

Though it does drain a little slower than it would with a regular drain plug, the threads on the drain plug get worn over time, and to avoid stripping them, or having a leak I went with the valve. I've changed my oil twice since installing it, and don't have any regrets, or any drops of oil to clean up after the change. With the valve, you can drain the oil when the engine is completely hot, to help it drain.
They say "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." I don't know about that, but I do know it's next to impossible for me. I need all the help I can get.

I just installed the sure drain on my 2002 ranger
I like the brass cap I dunno how much I like the looks of that
Fumoto valve... what if a rock hit it? as for the oil restriction
on the fram. if you drain the oil hot it will let out alot more sediment than cold anyway. I change the oil in my 2 john deer tractors and its AMAZING how much more crap comes out when the oil is hot than cold

Again its all about ease I just got 3 cases of citgo suregard oil
for 16bucks (total not per case) so I plan on changing the oil every 3k and this makes it alot easier as I dont jack my ranger up to change the oil. Oh and I am messy too .. this makes it alot less messy.

 

The location of the Fumoto isn't a problem. When it's installed, it sits high enough to be behind the front differential. If a rock were to hit that, I'd be doing some pretty serious stunt driving. Once you see one installed, you'll see that there's no reason for concern. It only hangs 1" lower than the original drain plug.

 

I contacted Fram ref. the Sure Drain valve for my PSD. They responded with an email that currently they have no part number for the PSD and will not provide one unless the valve catches on better, "Supply and Demand". I suggested they manf. it since there are many PSD owners who would rather spend $12 than $24 for a Fumoto.
Got no furhter response.

Yes. FYI the recalled all them that were suppose t ofit the PSD and didn't.

Those of you who run a Fumoto, did you do anything to attempt to replace the magnet that was on the stock drain pan? Filter magnet? Is it worth pursuring if I do get a Fumoto?

 

As Rand said, I wanted the Sure-Drain because of the security provided by the brass cap.

monsta said Fram recalled the Sure-Drain's for the PSD. The problem is that Fram didn't recall the Fram parts books in all the stores. These books still list the SD-2 for the PSD (I checked at Wally World a couple of days ago).

As always, take the parts lists with a grain of salt.

Now all I have to do is figure how to put a 2002 Ranger oil pan on my PSD ....

WalMart has a sure junk drain for psd by fram , it is junk and waste of$12 , i wouldn't ever buy another one , not even for a lawnmower .I threw it in trash after first use ..DO NOT RECCOMEND FRAM SURE DRAIN..

 

Everything FRAM is a waste of space - I wonder why we even give it ink here Fram topics should be banned thier products are junk, period...

:-X11 if you actually used the sure drain on a psd you would strip out the oil pan threads... so I'm raising the BS flag on that one.
And no I dont like their oil filters but its pretty hard to screw up the sure drain.. as long as the threads match
