im going to buy a parts truck this week, it comes with the original bed, thats its selling point. but anyway it has a really nice frame. only problem is it has dual front shocks, first off i've never seen that before. and secondly only two are being used, the oposite ones on each side. is this a good setup? or should i grind off the extra shock mounts?
I dont think thats a stock setup (I'm sure someone will set me straight), but I've seen kits like that in the summit catalog. I would think if you dont want dual shocks and its a bolt on mod, you could probably sell them on ebay. I would be tempted to add the other two shocks use them on my truck, if the handling wasnt improved they could be taken out easily. And shocks are cheap too....even the Rancho's.
Lots of people will add dual shocks though it typically isn't necessary. They tend to give a stiff ride most of the time. Are you saying that it has 2 mounts but only 1 shock on each side? The mounting tabs can be removed if you decide you don't need them.
i think that the quad shock was an option i had an 84 f150 with them i thought that was the greatest thing eaver in mud i dont no where you would even buy them at to convert them over to 2-4 , i would hook all for up if i remember right it was smoother its been about 5 yrs ago that i had that truck but if you wanted to sell them i would be interested in buyin them if cheep enough
it is definatly a stock option. the shock mounts are not bolted on they are rivited. in the haynes manual i think it is, it said something about dual front shocks. so i do think it was an option. i would probably keep it dual shocks, as i will be running a snowplow. i was just shocked to see this. ive never seen them before. and i own 2 73-79 4x4s! everyday is an adventure with these trucks. and the shocks that are on in, one is mounted on the front bracket in front of the axle, and on the other side of the truck it is mounted on the rear bracket, behind the axle. the only thing is that i didnt see any mounting points on the axles for the shocks, but i didnt look that hard...
Is it an F-150? I know the F150's had that option but i dont know about other models. My 79 has them and it does give a stiffer ride, i dont mind it though
I have a 1977 F-250 2x4 and i see where the top of the mount is at, but ther is no provision on the bottom for a shock to mount to. I heard that there was a company that made a piece to mount on the bottom for the dual shock set-up. if someone can help me out thatt would be great. thanks in advance.

Is your F250 a 4by4 ? I've never seen a dual set up for them. The drag link is in the way on the drivers side
i noticed that too. i just dont see how it would work. i think im going to remove the extra mounts. unless i can figure out how it works. does anyone know?
