About a year ago I posted about my mirrors in the 99 expy. They had started to loose the mirror coating, and you were not able to see out of them any more. Someone on the list recomended that I contact meuth mirrors (the manufacturer) and see about getting them replaced. I did and they sent me a new pair at about 1/2 the cost. They claimed that they could not cover them fully because my truck was out of warranty. This seemed very fair to me. I paid up and they shipped quick. Done deal?...
No, they called this afternoon and said that they reviewed my case, and decided that the mirrors should be covered. They then refunded my money plus shipping. I thought that this was very good buisness, and deserved to be passed on to others.
They replaced mine for free right from the start! No shipping costs or anything. The only thing they asked me to do is to destroy the old mirrors. They are a top knotch company to deal with. Glad to hear all went well for you!
I had the same experience, I learned from previous posts on thsi board that I could replace them by calling muth. I have a 99 which is out of waranty so they said I would have to buy them but discounted them for me from $260 to $159 which I thought was fair... This was two months ago and I bought them replaced them quickly and easily... Well day before yesterday I received a call from Muth who said "we have reviewed your case (as if I had one?) and decided to replace them at no charge" they then asked if I minded if they refuned my $$ to my mastercard at which point I could not be a more satisfied customer.
Now my only thought is why? Is there a recall they are trying to avoid? Someone filling a law suit or something? There has to be a reason, not that I am a skeptic but I am a skeptic - No free lunch ya know...
I purchased new mirrors for my 99 from them about 6 months ago. I just called them and they refunded the cost of the mirrors and the shipping. I'm guessing they had a threat of a lawsuit. They said they tried calling me yesterday to tell me about the refund. Either way, I will do business with them again. Nice to get money back once in a while...........
I think that you are right about a lawsuit. Still it is nice to have a company offer to do this. Now only if Goodyear would call about my worn out tires...
what Goodyears do you have? I have the new Goodyear Fortera's and they are a nice tire (about 15k on them so far/seem to be wearing well). They are a P tire not an LT but they look more like an LT tire but ride like a P. I have heard the Wranglers suck. They guy I bought my Expy from had the Wranglers and said they were terrible. He had the tire place take them off and put the Fortera's on.
I just called Muth and they are sending me a new set of mirrors for my 97 Expy. They are charging me $219.00 and will refund the money when I send the old mirrors back to them.
After reading this I called and talked to them about my mirrors. The lady I talked with said it would be covered under warranty even though my Expedition is a 99. I had to put them on my credit card and as soon as I change them out to return the old ones for a full refund. I was concerned about the cost of replacing these until I read this thread. Thanks to all for posting about this problem.
I have the wrangler something or other (gts maybe?) They are horrible. I had them on an explorer that I used to have. I almost traded the truck in because of the way that it drove/rode. I got new big o brand tires and kept the truck for another 100,000 miles! They person that owned the 99 expy before me had just put the new goodyears on her, so I am just waiting for them to wear down some more. Something about me, I just can't replace 800 dollar tires when they still look brand new! (even if they suck!)
I am so glad that this thread has helped others be able to see in their mirrors again! That is what this forum is all about!
Parr8hed, I am in the exact same position with my 99, the prev. owner just put on a new set of tires and I guess could not think of anything better than the factory junk..
