Hi There,
I have a 1994 F250 5 SPEED 5.8 LITRE and it doesn't shift as smooth as it did, I have also noticed a very slight vibration under load (ie.camper and load of dirt, gravel.) as I Begin to accelerate and then it goes away. I suspect that the clutch needs adjusting or it needs to be replaced. If the clutch needs to be replaced can it be done at home ? if so, will I need any special tools ? Does anybody have some experience thay can share ?
Thanks,
Revelstoke
which 5 speed do you have? also is it 4wd?
most likely this is something that can be done at home in a weekend, but it involves dropping the tranny, so it depends on how much work you are willing to put into it.
Before you pull the clutch, check the u-joints, transmisssion fluid level, hangar bearing, rear end fluid level, etc. Maybe some grease will solve the problem. Also check the clutch cylinder fluid level. I'm not sure on your truck but I suspect it also has a slave cylinder. Bleeding the system might help. Don't do major surgery until you eliminate the most likely problems first. One other thing, if you have a slip-yoke on your drive line, that can cause the problems you describe. And you will need some special tools to change the clutch. But not many. Make sure that is the problem first before taking everything apart. Keep us posted.
Thanks, for the reply guys. I forgot to mention that the truck is 4WD. I will check out all the things mentioned this weekend and see where it leeds me.
Thanks,
Revelstoke
