axle poll

just curious...
which axle used under fords do you guys think is the best...
1.durability/reliability
2.brute strength
3.cost effective
4.biggest joke

Dana straight axles are always a safe bet for reliability/durability/strength, as long as you're using the right model for the job. The biggest joke in my opinion is putting a semi floating axle in a 3/4 ton truck. 3/4 tons should have full floaters. I've also never been fan of the TTB frontend.

For durability/reliability: I'd say the Sterling axles for durability and the 9" ties with the Dana 44 for reliability only because no other axles have proven itself for so long in Fords.
For brute strength: Sterling axles.
Cost effective: Ford 9". About $100 at a junkyard and great reliability for not a lot of money.
Biggest joke: Dana 30.

what about the dana 28 in the front of the older rangers and bIIs. thats weak.

sterling is a good strong truck axle that bolts right in. anything more you might as well go for the 2.5 rockwells
