one more question with my timing
one more question with my timing
I think my timing is too far advanced because it clatters preety nasty when I floor it the mechanic that worked on it had to disadvance the timing to get it to pass emissions when he put it back he said he just turned it back and may have went to far.My question is which way do I turn the distributor to disadvance it and any tips on getting to the dist bolt without buying a timing wrench
if you have a V8, you turn it counter clock wise to retart the timing. I think it is the same way on a 300. I just timed my 300 about a week ago, and I cant remember. Just get a timing light and see where it goes
Don't mean to intrude on evin's thread, but he is asking a question that I always intrigued me as a person with very basic mechanical skills. The last time I timed my 300 I-6, I checked which way the rotor turns because of an arguement I was having with a buddy who said that the rotor turns counterclockwise. Turns out that the rotor actually rotates clockwise. So, if one turns the distributor counterclockwise, or opposite the rotor rotation, that would be advancing the timing? Am I correct on this?

Don't know about the 300 - 6, but the V-8's rotor does turn counterclockwise.
Yes, turning the distributor body clockwise on a V-8 does advance the timing.
