Extended cab update

Hey all, figured I haven't been around much as of late so I thought I'd drop in and give an update. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to get out and work with college and all, but I've certainly been planning.

One thing that may surprise some of you, is that I am seriously debating about going back to a stock frame instead of the 79 frame I just stretched. I guess I'm realizing that I would be losing a part of the "old truck look". Now I just need to really do a lot of repair work from mods make by the PO, or find an unmolested 3/4 ton frame and use mine for the stretch material.

I'm looking forward to this summer actually haveing time to work on this old girl, and actually having a reasonble income as well. If all goes as planned I'll hopefully have the frame set and the body in primer.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, but figured I'd drop by.

Jon,
Nice to hear from ya once again! Wondered where IronDragon and our long, lost pal in Germany had gone to (LOL). Anyway, I'm mixed on switching back and losing the "extended cab" you've been working on for so long. But then again, there is a lot of credence to retaining that "old truck nostalgic look". Man, that's a toughy, but the ultimate decision is of course yours. Either way you decide, I'm sure we'll all support your decision... if for no other reason than we'd like to see some REAL progress toward completing the ol' gal!!!

Keep school priority #1 though, ok?

Best,
Daryl

Daryl, just to make things a bit clearer, I'm not ditching the extended cab idea, in fact that is still my ultimate plan. My change of plan is to go back to stretching a stock frame instead of trying to fit the old body on a 70's frame. I think if I'm going to do it, I need to have it look as original as possible (ironic how I end back at my first plan)

Don't worry, I haven't lost my insanity at college Although I am technically a grad now, although its off to grad school in the fall down at Ohio State (anyone know of any parts yard near Columbus?)

Ohio State? That's gotta be giving some of your Michigan neighbors heart failure, huh?! Good luck and keep up the good work!

When I was a kid I used to live in Powell, just north of there. That whole area has turned into a bedroom community for Columbus and most of the businesses and homes have been turned into antique shops. Don't recall any junk yards tho....... I have a brother who lives in Dublin, just nw of OSU. I'll check with him.

Jon,

I have the frame from the '52 parts truck that I had when you picked up the other parts last year, or was it the year before? Anyway, if you want it you can have it. I was just going to scrap it. The only thing is that I cut the running board brackets off other than that it's all there.

Finally getting some progress made again

Hey all, just back in from the garage after spending some quality time with the '52. Got the cab lifted off the frame (again) and set on a dolly so I can start to finish up the sheetmetal work on the extension.

I actually got started on extending the drip rails... now thats a challenge, but I think I've got a good start on that. Hopefully will get pictures up soon.

I also managed to haul the stretched 79 frame out to pasture (may it rust in peace... guess it made good practice) to make room for an original '52 F-3 frame that I'll be picking up and stretching to fit later this summer. Hopefully a lead I have on a F-6 clip will pan out too so I'll have all the body sheetmetal finally.

The way things are looking, I think my goal of a complete chassis and a primered body by the end of the summer just might be a realistic one, sorry for the long post, but I figured some of you may be interested.
