Here is the catch: My brother in law is taking the drive train.
I have an F150 Shorty, also 4x4, but the body is thrashed.
I could build a real short F150 CC!
Or put my stuff under the F250 and keep an eye out for F250 parts.
Any suggestions?
I am not crazy, I just love old fords, and my fmaliy won't fit one bench!
I'd say go for it. Those trucks are very rare around here; I think I may have seen ONE. Especially having a body that looks that good. So, even if you can't figure out a way to mix the 2 trucks, keep it. Good luck in your endeavors.
Go for it! You can replace the drive train for a few grand, which is what you would have to pay for a truck in this condition with a questionable drive train.

I have a '92 Bronco, but lets leave that out of this!
I have a '78 F150 shorty with a bad body, and a '79 F250 Crew cab that will be given to me after it is stripped of the drive train. My dilema is how to make the best of those.
I might be able to part out my 1/2 ton and use the money to put the F250 together again. We'll see.
My brother in law is taking the running gear to build a buggy with. Leaving the frame and body.
He is out of town for a week. I will try to find some F250 axles before he gets back. Then he will only need to take the engine, tranny and Tcase. I can swap over those from my '78 F150.
I think I am going to try to work this so the crew stays intact. If I can't pull that off, well at least the cab won't go to waste.
Why not just buy a drive train for your brother in law to build with and keep the truck as is? He wouldn't be interested in your truck as a trade for that drive train?
I have a 78 f150 4x4 reg cab and a 78 f250 crew 4x4. The box may work in your conversion if you can weld but the drive trains are different. The f250 is such a heavier duty machine in the crew cab. The extra length takes very little time to get used to...but worth it. My crew has a 7' bed with gas tank mounted in the frame by rear spare. It gets all kinds of lookers. Keep it and restore it will be worth the effort!!!
