After thinking about how much work I do in the garage, I was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy oil in bulk, like 55 galon drums, or 30 gallon. The only problem is that I don't know where to buy the stuff. Where do you guys get your bulk oil? I'm talking about Valvoline 5w-30
Most definately it is cheaper buying it in larger amounts. You can buy barrels of oil at Sams club, most Farm and Ranch stores, or any oil distributor...It will be tough finding it in Valvoline 5-30 at most retail stores though. A simple look in the phone book could tell you your local oil wholesalers and wether they could hook you up, or where to look.
It is common practice on the farm to do the very same thing you are considering.
Best way to do drain the drum is to build a simple stand for it (so that the barrel and lay on its side) and stick a bung in it before tipping the barrel into the stand. This way you dont need a fancy barrel pump, and you get most of the oil out.
