Got this same problem, ill be sure to check into this. Mine seems to only be cold when you first turn it on, then after about 3 min it begins to get hotter and hotter. The only strange thing is that it has this hot spell for about fifteen min then gets cold again, then starts the cycle over....can anyone explain this?
Check the air gap on your compressor clutch. It should be .030 inch. My truck was doing the same thing. The air gap on mine was .049. I removed the 8mm bolt on the front, pulled off the outer plate and removed a washer and re-installed the plate. That set the gap to .020 and it's been working just fine ever since.
A good way to test this is to turn the ignition on with the A/C on but not the engine. If the gap is not closed, tap on the outer plate with the butt end of the screwdriver and it will close.
When you remove the plate be sure to keep the bolt in it so the washers won't fall out all over the place. Some have one washer, like mine, and others have several small washers.
You don't have to remove the belt to do this. Should take about 10 minutes or less depending on how good you are with a 8mm socket.

Wow...Old thread huh? I dont know if its actually a named mod.,but I installed a water cut-off valve to stop hot coolant from going into the heater core and my A/C works very well.What I do is start it up,turn the A/C on,set my high idle,let it run about 5 to 10 mins.,it gets nice and cold.

I wasn't real sure how old the thread was as I was looking for something else and came across this.Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents just in case.
I need to learn more about the process you speak of. Alhtogh mine blows pretty darned cold now, I can always use a little improvement in this Texas heat.
