Steering, Tie-Rod Problems...?

Well, today I was going for a little test run after some minor work.I was cruising down the road when all of a sudden my truck started to shake and start hopping around really bad.Scared the @&^$ out of me!! I pulled over to find out what was going on I thought I was losing a tire or somthing? I could not see anything wrong or broke,So I tried to drive it and it was fine, so I drive her home. Now I have only owned this truck for like 3 weeks and the owner before told me That I was going to need new tierods. My steering iiis also very, very loose.Do you guys think that this is A tierod prob? Or somthing else or worse? Ohh and p.s somone had saw what had happend and told me that the front wheels where shaking really bad.... Thx.

Your tierods are the links that connect your steering wheel to your wheels, you dont want to drive with a bad one,if one lets go,you can loose all steering and go into oncoming traffic or off the side of the road. They are not hard to change and are not really expensive,Please dont drive it,Drive something else to your local auto parts store, buy them both, left side and right side.If you have a problem changing them just shout, like I said they are easy, most of the time to change, but you will need an alignment afterwards, but be prepared, the alignment shop may tell you that you need other parts also, before they can do a proper alignment.

Ohh... and onther thing about the steering is that if wheel is strait it will catch turning left right away but is a 1/4 turn or more to the right I'm also leaking fluid it on the steering at what I think is the adjustment screw. It's like A threaded screw whith a bolt to keep it tight. What is the proper whay to adjust this? Thx

check all your steering joints closely
this is a condition that will happen when you get the tires going in
oposite directions. as in a pot hole. with worn parts you must hit the brakes to stop the tires from bouncing against each other

well I tried surfin the posts to see if there were any that would help, but I couldn`t find you one so,let me say this the left one is a tie rod,the right one is a draglink,if you can push them up and down in their sockets then they are worn out and must be replaced, any other bushings that you see that are bad you should replace before taking it in for an alignment, because if there is any slop in the steering they wont be able to align it.

On the gear box at the small screw with the nut is where you adjust the play in the steering, some guy's won't even touch that screw but I have gotten a little tighter steering by adjusting it. If the drag link or tie rod end are easy to move around or have to much slop in them it is close to replacement time. There should also be a sttering dampner mounted from the axle to the drag link, (oversize shock) make sure that is good also

Explanation

To The Top > (depending on how soon after they post) means a user has become impatient and wants his thread back to the top of the list on the page ...thinking that their post is the most important one, instead of just sitting back & letting things happen and allow people to go through the forum answering items in order.

So the user replies to their thread themself to bring that thread back up to the top of the list.

People don't ameways sit anround their computer like Ken,Eric or I do.
They are out B-B-Qing,camping,at sporting events, etc

Also, This forum has one of the highest post counts of all the forums.

People have to be patient around here.

I am a mechanic, and will try and help you all I can,but please,do not be disrespectful to Mil1ion,If you surf through the posts, you will come to find that he goes out of his way to help all of us any way he can.And as far as response time goes, please remember that there are alot of forums and there are times when we will be in another forum helping somebody else,or maybe just talking with someone else about the days events, remember,we are doing this for free, and when it becomes a pain,we wont help anymore.
