Ranger429,Why do you think most do not mess with that screw?can you make things really worse? I ask cause I did mess with that screw some, but it did not seem to make a diff.Should I go back and play with it after new tierods and drag link?thx
Well,I think I can help explain this alittle,at the top of the posts there is one thats says read this before posting, and the administrators have been trying to get people to be more specific with how they title their post and the info they put in them. And you would have to admit,it must get frustrating to have to keep saying the same thing over and over.Being new,I am sure you have not seen what has been going on,but he does have a point, and I think you will agree that if this post had been titled say linkage problems on a truck, then the next guy who uses the search feature types in linkage problems, gets sent to this post.It helps to keep down the amount of posts that are repetitive. And you wont have to call a truce with Mil1ion,he is real good hearted and will let this whole thing slide,so lets get back to your truck.
And that adjustment screw you are refering to,yes if it is over tightened it can damage the internal parts, but a little adjustment will remove steering play, but you need to fix the other play problems first

King,I seem to be leaking a good amount a fluid threw this screw also.Is this unit it shot?Do I need a new steering box? Also I do not know how to explain this but, the shaft coming from the steering to that box Hmm... where they bolt together mine seems to be bent up? If that made any sence at all? They are not flush the shaft going into the steering box looks bent at the conections? It almost looks like it was ment to be that way though.Maybe someone had rigged somthing up to work at the time? thx
The shaft coming out of the box itself is bent?or the arm coming off of that shaft(pitman arm) if it is the shaft itself,it can be replaced, but you would probably be better off to get a good used steering box from a junkyard.
Tell ya what,if you can take some pictures and post them in your gallery it would help alot.

Yes you can get adjustment out of the screw but you can also damage the pump to. There is an o-ring around the shaft and a gasket where the 4 bolt's mount to the top of the gear box for a seal. You said it will catch turning at 1/4 turn?? that could be the sign of a bad gear box.
Give it time and someone will answer your Q's, Mil1ion has got some of the best information available to us and he is just trying to do his job as an administrator
