Handi-capped / Disabled Parking Spots and YOU !
How do you feel about it ?
Do you do anything about it?
Do you say anything to the abuser or ask why they are parking there when they appear to be physically fit?
Afterall, there are many reasons why people do things & there are also many different ways people can "Take" the message if one is given.
1)Possibly, they are picking up someone who is physically disabled and need a place near the doors.
2)They didn't know BUT, they don't remove the vehicle after being informed.

>#$#$@#. He dosn't always park in the handicap spots either.
I usually get a few looks when I use handicapped parking, because of my truck. But I can still climb into it without to much of a problem. However, I am only able to walk very short distances. I won't bore everyone with details. I do have a ligit handicapped parking placard and use it when I can.
It is very annoying to find the handicapped spots filled with people who's only handicap is lazyness. If they are in their car, I usually give them a disgusted look or even an unfriendly hand gesture. Which is almost always ignored.
Disabilities aren't always visible.
It's hard enough to live with a disability without having people question you about it.
So I mind my own business.

I agree disabilities are not always visible. Thats why a handicapped license plate or placard should be visible!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
You are walking from your truck parked 18-40 spaces away from the doors. You walked past several empty spots to get to the doors.
This car pulls up with a disabled placard hanging from the mirror and two people get out and walk at a normal rate or even briskly toward the doors.
Politiely of course,
Do you say something to them about it being a disabled spot?
Reaction: They ignore you or flip you the bird.

Reminds me of a bad movie, Me Myself and Irene- Jim Carry movie.
He see this guy pull up to a store in a convertible, gets out and runs in. He then trashes the car, even urinates in the gas tank, only to see the guy come out , helping an older gentleman with a walker to the car. Seems it was the older guys car and the the younger guy was just picking him up.
At this mall, this guy had a disability placard hanging from the mirror.I casually & politely informed him that was a Disabled spot and if he is seen by the Mall parking police walking in a brisk manner he will be ticketed & towed.
(They do that here as it's against the law.)
The guy told me to Make like Bobby Orr & .....
I was waiting for my wife outside and the Mall parking police came a long not 20 seconds after the guy ducked into the mall.
The officer was in the process of writing a ticket for this car when the guy came flying out of the mall doors and ran to the parking cop.
He explained to the cop that he was picking up someone that was disabled. The cop said "Okay, I'll waiting for you to go get this person and bring them to the car to MAKE SURE as there is a lot of abuse at this mall by FIT people ".
The guy went back into the mall and waited on a bench for at least 20 minutes whiole the cop waited at his car.
Finally the guy couldn't wait any longer and when back out tio cofess to the cop that he just needed to run in and get something real quick
and he didn't think it would be a problem.
The cop said something like " That IS the problem and how would YOU like it if when you' are old and can't walk very far or need a wheelchair and some FIT ,20 something ,parks in a designated spot for you instead?
I'm surprised he never asked for the disability card.
The kid got the ticket and apologised to the cop and left.
All this took about 1/2 hour.
It was great entertainment.

Healthy folk who park there oughtta do a couple months community service at the veterans home and then take them out and shoot em'. (kidding)
1) Why do they have handicapp park at Kwik Shops (convenient stores)?
2) Why do people take the handicapp parking spot at a mall or Walmart when they will walk 2 miles inside the store and usually less than 60 yards - just to walk through the doors.
3)Why should I get a high dollar ticket for parking in one when there are no other cars in the lot?
No, I haven't had a ticket. But I have been to meetings where those that attend do not have a limiting disability and those spots are wasted space.
As far as confronting someone: Nope, I'll leave them alone. My dad walks ok but if he as to walk far he is in a lot of pain. So if someone parks in one: Who I am I to confront them unless I have walked a moon in their shoes?
My 2 cents worth.

I don't have a problem with the "Appears normal/handicap"
types, MD comes to mind...

I usually ask "Is that a Mental handicap? you can't read??"
