eod transmission shifting problems
I just bought a 1996 f-150 4x4 351 automatic and I am having a shifting problem. The truck shifts fine most of the time but once in awhile after I shut it off it will not shift out of low and will not hold back. The only way I can get it to shift is to shut it off and restart and most of the time it will shift again. Another problem I am having and don't know if it is related is it misses all the time when the engine is at a low rpm and pulling hard. It runs fine when I use passing gear. Any ideas?..........Digr

Stop driving the truck until you are sure the transmission is not in self-destruct mode. These things can get very expensive. Troubleshooting guides are available in professional repair manuals, check the library, and at transmission parts houses.
