Post 1977 Ford Door Hinge Pin Replacement

Ok, I know that this is a Body question, but it is much easier to find answers to questions based on year in these forums versus catigory. I have a 1977 ( originally thought to be a 78 until I started to buy parts for it. Like Drag link, the 76-77 are totally different from the 78's ) that ain't pretty but I got it to run like a champ. But living in Ohio,, the salt from the winters have taken their toll and gotta start on the body work. The bed is completely shot (replacment bed is being worked on) and the doors are literally falling off the hinges. I got 2 really good doors from salvage and with a little sanding and priming, are ready to be hung. But I need to replace the door hinge pins. How in the world do you get these things out?? Chiltons hasn't been a help and most people I know have never taken the pins out ( the doors usually fall off on there own ). I know that on later models, not sure when they switched, the pins had a retaining clip at the bottom that you popped off and you drove the pin out. This pin however, is flat on both ends and has no clip. It's driving me nuts because I gotta lift my door up to get it closed. Thanks for any help guys. You usually help me out on any other problems I've had in the past.

I think that you just have to grind or file off one end to get them out.

LxMan1 is right - just grind off the head, or cut the pin in half and put in the new set - easy.

You might consider painting the jambs and inside the doors before you put them on. It's a lot harder later.

I just put new hinges on mine. In the end it was easier to remove the front fender than try to do it with a hoist holding the door up. Especially when several of the bolts snapped off..as usual!

You East coast guys should just drive out West when your looking for an old truck ? you know......... somewhere where they don't use salt ?
There are so many nice solid rust free 67-79 trucks out here, even in Oregon where it rains alot.
Our local truck trader magazine is just full of nice old trucks.....

The pointed 2 7/8" pins that use the e-clip started in 1980. None of the suppliers I have checked with make a pin for the '73-'79 F-series. The bushings were all the same from 73-83 but I haven't found a pin supplier who has the correct item. Napa has the later model ones, or those long a** GM pins that are 4" or better. Did not see any available from the "usual suspects" or from any of the fastener suppliers either. Do I go with the late pin or cut down one of the GM pins?
