Problems with my Ford
The fact that the Vehicle is running smoothly doesn't mean you shouldnt change the plugs for 200k.
1. Gas Milage will plummet without new plugs every 60k or so.
2. The combstion chamber will be SO dirty that...well i dont even want to think about it.
3. If your state has emmissions tests it might not pass and all that incomplete combstion (CO) and soot will eventually foul your O2 sensors maybe even the Cat. Those items need replacing when they fail why cause them to fail early.
OK thats three simple reasons to change your plugs BEFORE 200k. Im sure there is another 20 or so I wont bother with. any one want to add.
I guess it makes a big difference how you drive your vehicle. If you city drive and never put a good load on the engine then you can have plug and buildup problems.
I don't get any buildup or mileage loss.I've changed maybe 2500 plugs in my life and I have seen problems in other peoples vehicles. I've changed them in my vehicle also with no smog test or mileage improvement. It took me a while to change old habits after the new high output ignitions, unleaded gas,and improved spark plugs.
I highway averaged 19.5 mpg in both my 4.0V6 4wd 4dr Explorers and 23.5 on my 98 4wd 4dr Mountineer 4.0 V6-OHC. Each has 149,000-138,000-and 98,000 miles on them.
I just changed the plugs in my 139,000 mile 93 extended cab 5.0 V8 with absolutely no changes.Every time I do change the plugs in my vehicles,I just throw my money away.My truck got 12.5mpg before and it still gets just 12.5mpg. Go figure!
