Alright, bear with me, I'm going to try my best with the explanation. I found a broken spring under neath my truck (81 F150 4.9L M/T 4sp with OD). The end that didn't break was hooked on to the frame and the other end appears to connect to the clutch. A while back the clutch pedal started to make a bunch of noise and felt like something broke, but no problems with shifting. I guess I found what broke! Also its about 2 ft or so long. Can anybody tell me what this is so I can find a replacement?
Not at the moment, I'll try to get out to my parents house to use their digi camera. Looking again, I probably overestimated the size. Its not quite 2ft, but definately over 1ft. And most of it is straight wire, not coil. The best I can tell is that it keeps the clutch pedal pulled out, so as not to engage the clutch while not shifting. The truck drives fine, but I figure Ford put it there for a reason.
Thanks for the reply, and like I said, I'll get a pic.
I know which spring you are talking about. I had it break on my 82 F100. I had to go to a transmission shop to get one. Either that the Ford dealer. Ask for a clutch return spring, I believe that is what it is called. It should run from a hole in the K-member to the clutch fork. All the spring does is help to fully disengage the clutch and gives some tension on the clutch. Hope you find a new one. Fred
