Job #2 Build?

hi guys,
This is my first post so I hope I'm doing this correct. I have been doing alot
of reading on this site, and the knowledge base of the members is incredible.
Recently sold my '96 F-250 7.3 PSD and now in the market for another PSD.
Several of the new '04 6.0 vehicles i looked at had a line on the window sticker that said Job #2 Build. The salesman said this was the latest version of the 6.0 PSD and had all the newest improvements and upgrades on it.
Is this correct or is it just car salesman talk? I am leaning towards getting a '04 6.0 F-250/F-350 but I am still a little leery and not completely sold on the new motor. Would I be better off looking for a '01-'03 7.3 PSD? Anyway, thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

wapitihunter,

Welcome to FTE this site is great, lots of good info and people around here

It is my understanding that FMC switched from Job #1 Build identifier to Job #2 Build identifier with the switch from the 03 motor to the 04 motor (about 30 changes on the motor) on 09/29/03. So yes a Job #2 truck should have the latest changes. Look for two dates on the truck 1) Build date on the sticker located at the drivers door frame; 2) Engine build date on the sticker located on the engine FICM, left valve cover at firewall next to the overflow (degass) bottle. Link to picture http://www.flatratetech.com/6literpo...oke/03or04.htm

These two dates will give you the truck build date and the engine build date. You definitely want an 04 engine, not the 03.

Hope this helps

IF it was me I would find a 2002/2003 7.3 or wait on the 2005 with the 2005 engine they have most of the bugs worked out of the 2004s except some including mine get very poor mpgs, mine has been in shop for no fuel mpgs so many times I have lost count I now get 14.2 on the hwy empty up from the 9.2 I started with. also do some research on the dealer you plan on buying from how many ase trained ford diesel tech on staff, how many diesel do they sell and service as its very important tech. is trained as the 6.0 is state of art tech. good luck with your truck purchase.

tn mac,

Don't you have a Job #1 build with the 03 motor. I know the 03 motors are still having fuel mileage problems, but have not heard of the fuel mileage problems with the Job #2 build 04 motors. Please clarify this for me, since I am trying to keep all these build dates a problems straight in my mind. Just trying to learn

Thanks for your help

You are correct mine is 03 engine but there are 04 engines with same problem, IE ROBAIRE, and others that I talked to say same thing poor mpgs but that is only problem. so far on my truck they have replaced just about every component that has any thing to with mpgs but still have not got it figured out.
