Mileage Flash Update

I had the truck in for an exhaust leak and one of the things I had put down on my list to check was if all 3 of my engine controllers were updated correctly when they did the October flash. They checked all 3 of them and they were indeed updated correctly.

I told my diesel service manager of my mileage woes and he said I wasn't the only one and that he had had MANY complaints about mileage and power after the October flash.

He called Ford and didn't get very far. Then he called Navistar and he did confirm that something is in the works due to all the complaints.

He did not have a timeframe but he said with all the complaints, he wouldn't be surprised to see a flash soon.

That's all he gave me to go on and told me to "hang in there"

At least that is something to hope for. I just worry the longer it takes, the more Predators that are sold, the less complaints they will hear....

Isn't it amazing how the flash in the Predator makes the problems go away?

Does anyone know the specifics on the Predator?

A. They just flash the ECM with new parameters
B. They started with Ford firmware and modified it
C. They started with Navistar firmware and modified it
D. They wrote their own firmware from scratch

Do they only flash the ECM or do they flash the FICM and TCM too?

Look up the phone no. at diablosport.com. The will answer your questions. I'm not code smart so i'm only concerned with the results.

I'm not wanting to start an argument but on warranty issues the Ford flash has been so bad for the last 1.5 years Ford doesn't have a leg to stand on unless a failure is caused by the programmer which is unlikely. There have been thousands of documented failures because of the Ford flash.

Choctow,

When using the 65HP setting in a stock truck (intake, exhaust and no gauges) will I ever push it to the limit of hurting it (temperature wise)?

I drive with a normal foot and only step into ti when passing on highway or two-lane roads. Will the 65HP mode give me the performance I want without having to spend more $$$ on exhausts, intakes and gauges?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Here is the test I did when I first got my Predator:

Here is some EGT Data.
This is the truck and conditions:
2003 Ford PSD Super Cab Short Bed
Weight 6500 Pounds with Driver
0603 Build Date
Original Flash
5500 Miles
No Problems
265- 75 -R -16 30.5 inches tall
3.73 Posi

Predator set at 65 HP
K&N Cold air with mass air
No other modifications
Auto Meter EGT gage with probe installed with clamp >2" from turbo outlet flange.

Air Temperature 40 Deg.
20 MPH head wind
Idle Warm 400 Deg.
Around town, max 50 MPH 400- 600 Deg
75 MPH Cruise level no boost 590 Deg
85 MPH Cruise level no boost 600 Deg
Add 10 lb boost for hill +10 Deg
Passing floor it >10 sec 80 – 100 MPH 25 LBS boost 650 Deg
Full throttle til speedo goes back to zero at 3000 RPM 790 Deg
Full throttle until 3300 RPM (maybe ¼ mile from 80) 800 Deg
Engine still accelerating strong at 25 lbs boost at 3300 temperature seems to be maxed out at 800 Deg.

No one can say for sure but I seriously doubt you will have any problems unless you tow something. In that case you should reflash with the 45 HP tow mode.

Where did you find the thousands of documented failures? I would like to read about them.

Thanks

Check out: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=185570
on this forum. There are 735 posts and counting with most being problems. If you read all of these and take a trip to some of the other(not to be mentioned here) forums, you will see the magnitude of the problem, especially if you notice Ford's reluctance to fix the major problems or at the best delay repairs.
I'm a lifelong Ford owner and there is nothing wrong with my truck except the turbo bracket induced drone that is common. I will live with it until I'm satisfied that my truck won't be a first time learning experience.
