Talking Reflash Code Number

OK, not to beat a dead horse but.... this tuesday I'm bringin in the truck for it's first 3K mileage check at the dealer. I told the service writer on the phone that I want the newest computer flash to be done on my truck, and explained the fuel milaege and rough idle problems. He acted like he had no friggin idea what a reflash was, or why I would need one. So when I go in there tuesday morning, what exactly can I tell them so they know I'm not full of sht. I'd like to print something out actually, I don't plan on taking any BS from them. I know there's about 200 pages on this site alone of people complaining about the october reflash, and we bought the truck at the end of october, and the dealer was telling us how they did all the newest updates to it before they gave it to us... OH BOY I'm so happy they ruined a perfectly good setup that WAS getting 18mpg until some brainiac had to "improve" the existing computer setup. That's ford for you, they make something that works great- then they have to mess with it and "improve" it just a little more till it's broken.

BTW i put in about $20 a week in fuel, and only drive less than 100 miles a week usually. I hardly drive it on the highway except on saturdays about 25 miles. THats basically like 8 MPG. If they don't do something.....

The newest flash apparantly hasn't fixed the mileage, but what about power and noise? This thing idles rough one minute, smooth the next, and smokes when your waiting at a light. WTF Am I wasting my time with the newest flash, or does it help some of these issues?

Thanks Guys
Joe

You may have other issues than just a flash..The OCT flash should have "helped" your driveability concerns.. If your not getting a good results from your servicing dealer, you may want to take it somewhere else, if possible...You will get more noise with the flash/s as your Pilot Injection will be gone.. Our dealer wasn't real clear on the Turbo Moan/Drone problems that affect my/some 03-04 models.. THEY know now!!!The latest flash is the DEC. flash B28.0.9 and addresses a few more/new conditions.. A new flash is supposed to be on the way? Hopefully to address the MPG complaints.. My 03 (1/03) gets better mileage than my friends 04.. Many variables with mileage/models, but everyone would probably like better MPG's...

i've been searching and every result i've looked at shows everyone complaining about the OCT flash that "ruined" their good mileage, and everyone had the same complaint: "...after the october flash my truck went from 18mpg to 12 mpg, idles rough, smokes, and has less power..." If ford keeps "improving" their products with genious decisions like that, I can't wait to blow another $35 thousand dollars on another truck....

I'm PSISSED that ford updated my truck before giving it to me. They should have informed me first. At least they should be able to UNDO what they did to it and make it get halfway decent mileage. 8-10 mpg is not right at all, especially when i havent even towed anything yet.

Hay:

My truck was flashed from the Dec flash to the newest about a week and a half ago. I took it in because I was seeing a 10 sec surge when the truck was broght out of park and moved the first 10 feet. I lost my pilot injection but I have seen an increace in fuel economy and it's spunkier off the line. With the combo highway/city/offroad driving I do daily (work in the phosphate industry so I'm on mining roads pretty much daily) I was averaging 14.5 -15 mpg. The last week or so (two fill-ups since flash) I'm averaging 16.5 mpg. This weekend I'll be pulling the boat home from the dealer. It's about a 75 mile trip and I'll be pulling 13000#. I'll fill up at the station next to the dealer and after I get home with the boat. Old mileage pulling was 9.5 mpg. I'm interested to see if the fuel increase spills over to the towing mileage.

Couldn't be happier with the truck!

Suggested response/approach:

" As you appear not to know what I'm talking about, direct me to someone familiar with the basics of the 6.0L engine. "

Do not assume that the service writer is familiar with the diesels. As you suggested, your appears to be lacking the basics....

Need more info. 250, 350, build date? You can go here, scroll down to your specific truck. You will find the flash part number (not WDS level) for your specific truck.

There is a flash that came out in Dec. Didn't fix the problems caused by the Oct flash. See this site for flash info http://www.flatratetech.com/6literp...al_updates.html.

I just completed a very frustrating set of calls to Ford Customer Assistance with the 800 number found in your owner manual. I explained the whole thing to them about flashes. I had to call three times to get one person to call back when they said they would. Finally got the message "engineering is aware of the problem and working on it".

My next move is a letter to Bill Ford. I can buy a Predator and get the 20% fuel economy back and risk my warranty or I can wait for Ford engineering to find their way. If Diablo developers can do it, why can't Ford with all their resources. Rant Rant Rant

This truly deserves to be said very loudly

IF DIABLO DEVELOPERS CAN DO IT, WHY CAN'T FORD, WITH ALL THEIR RESOURCES.

Today I sent a letter to:

Mr. William C. Ford
CEO and Chairman of the Board
Ford Motor Company
The American Road
Dearborn, MI 48126

In the letter, I asked that question.

BTW his email is first initial last name@ford.com. I didn't spell it out so as not to break the rules.
I just sent the letter today with copies to the general manager and service manager of the dealer.

The phone calls to the 800 number didn't seem to get anyone's attention, so just maybe all of us keyboard jockies who are on the internet anyway can say our piece about how the infamous Oct flash has taken away fuel economy, performance and increased noise. I included all my personal information along with my VIN so they can verify that I am a Ford owner.

I'll let you know if I hear of anything. Please join in.
