I have heard rumors that Ford will cease production of the 7.3 possibly in the near future. The 6.0 may be the big horse for all super dutys. Is this true anybody, Joe help!! If it is true can the 6.0 be mounted in the existing engine compartment of the older SD's without much modification? That is after 500K of use if someone would like to purchase a 6.0 to put in their rig.
Thanks for any info lurking about out there on the subject.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Sep-02 AT 01:33 PM (EST)]This Friday will be the last day of production for the U.S. built 7.3L Power Stroke. We are supposed to have enough 7.3's built to run Ford until November 1, but because of the company's stupidity, I'm pretty sure we'll be out by mid October (they'll probably have forced us out on strike by then anyway). Ford is scheduled to start production of 6.0L powered Super Duty trucks on Nov. 4.
The new engine is taller and wider (that's why they're not putting it into the Econoline vans -- it won't fit). The wiring harness connections are all different, all the electronics are different -- just about everything is different. Do yourself a favor, avoid the agravation. If you want a truck powered by the new engine, get a factory made one -- it will be a nightmare transplanting a 6.0 into a truck designed for a 7.3. But, if you enjoy endless headaches, don't let my words of discouragement stop you -- go for it.
I am fairly certain that the 7.3 will still be available for the remainder of the 2003 model year from Ford's Mexican plant. Maybe someone from Ford could expound on that.
Good news.
That means my truck is worth even more.

I have a 2003 F250 Crewcab 4WD on order, placed the 29th of August by my dealer (in Virginia, if that matters), supposed to be a priority order. Can I reasonably expect to get my truck in the 8-10 weeks they quoted, with the 7.3? Thanks for any information you might provide, Regan
I don't know. This is the first time I ever heard of a "priority order" -- didn't know there was such a thing. Maybe someone from Ford could respond to your question.
