2002 F-150 Regular Cab CD install questions
Okay, nothing special here. I just want to add a 10 disc changer to my stock AM/FM cassette stereo.
First, The manual for the changer says I can plug it into the DIN connector on the stereo if it is equipped with one. So, is it equipped with one or am I wasting my time bothering to look for one?
Second, If there is no DIN connector on the stock stereo, where are my best locations for tapping into power that is only on when the ignition is on and power (always on) for the memory backup?
Third, is there an easy and hidden "preffered" spot to stash the FM modulator?
Fourth, If needed, what is the best way to remove the stereo from the dash? Will it pull out of the dash or do you have to pull the dash apart old school style to get at it?
Thanks
Chris

First of all, alot depends on the radio you now have and the manufacturer of the changer. If its a "higher end" factory radio the din connectors will be there. It takes about 60 seconds to pull the radio, so go ahead and look.
Second to remove the radio, go to wal-mart and buy the removal tools. They are only a couple dollars and well worth it. To get it out, remove the bezel around the radio and ac controls by gently prying on it and it will "pop" loose. Now the air bag control switch ismounted to it, so go slow and either lay it aside or disconnect air bag switch.
Next insert the removal tools in the two slots on either side and pull the radio out.
A good place to hook to will be the radio wires. Also, there is room behind the radio for the modulator. I put my XM mod. there. Go to www.installdr.com for the wiring diagrams so you'll know which ones. If I'm not mistaken, the ignition wire (on when running) is black with pink stripe and the hot wire is green with black stripe.
